Sweet as a Georgia peach!
Peach season has arrived and our crew is busy harvesting our family's 107th peach crop. We have also started picking our homegrown blackberries, squash, zucchini, snap beans, 1/2 runner beans and a little bit of okra for the markets. We are certainly thankful for the rain showers that have blessed the farm in the past few days after a very dry May.
Despite the shortage of rainfall last month, the warmer temperatures and dry weather have helped encourage an extremely tasty early peach crop. We are currently picking June Prince, Ruby Prince, and Flaming Fury peach varieties for our markets - all yellow flesh, clingstone peaches. We also have a few Spring Snow peaches, our early white flesh variety, available leading into this weekend, plus some Jade nectarines.
What's the difference between Clingstone and Freestone? White vs. Yellow flesh? We're so glad you asked! Our UGA summer intern, Grace Dodds, has put together a quick video to describe the differences. Tune in below!

*Toward the end of next week we should have a few semi-cling peach varieties, however most of our freestone peaches come in season right after the fourth.
