Unstoppable: That is Who We Are

As I woke up this morning I was delighted with the melody of chirping birds outside my bedroom window. These feathered creatures are totally oblivious that our world is navigating a pandemic of mammoth proportions. Some have wondered and perhaps even questioned; “Why God?”

Henry Ward Beecher said, “We are always on the anvil: by trials God is shaping us for higher things.” The only condition is that the clay is yielded to the Potter. For those of us who are ardent Christ followers, seasons like this are times for reflection, genuine humility and increased reliance upon our Creator.
At Trinity Bible College and Graduate School, our community has navigated this pandemic in a remarkable way. We are unstoppable as a community. Every department has kept going and the creativity and innovativeness has been inspiring. I am writing this email to update you on the PhD program, but let me just say how proud we are of our Trinity community. The indomitable and also pragmatic nature of North Dakotans means that nothing will stop us—and indeed, nothing has.

Over a year ago, I felt the Lord urging me to start a PhD program at Trinity. When we called our accreditors, they encouraged us wholeheartedly to begin working on substantive change for a PhD. We modeled the program on a European style research degree, but adapted it to make American students feel completely comfortable. We have noted with interest that some prestigious institutions in the nation have now also taken this approach.

We began our first seminar in October 2019 with six candidates. The COVID-19 virus meant that we had to do our second seminar in April via Zoom. And what a success it was.

Our ability to use Zoom has been a life saver for all our courses. We have been able to keep our teaching commitments to our Graduate students during this time and they have been very successful.

We have an international cohort of PhD students joining us in June. They come from Jordan, Zambia, South Africa and the UK. Yes, Trinity is international and global. We already have five students signed up for our PhD program in October and there are many more in the pipeline. This is so exciting to see as we keep adding to our numbers in this program.
Please pray for us as a Graduate School. Our MA ML degree is now available entirely online. Since our location is remote this has been a strategic and timely move for the Graduate School. We are now offering a Master of Arts Chaplaincy and a Master of Arts Intercultural Studies in addition to our existing degrees.

We continue to believe God for great things.

We are Trinity—we are unstoppable.

We are so thankful for each one of you reading this email. Thank you for your support and continued prayers. We love and appreciate you all.

I am and always will be,

Recklessly abandoned, ruthlessly committed and in relentless pursuit of Jesus,
