Highlands Families,

We have a lot of activities going on in this bulletin.  Book fairs, a new mindfulness class for students, dine to donate, a PARENT night out, and more!  Please take the time to read this as most are time sensitive!

Office Notes

PRESCHOOL NEWS - We still do not have any updated information regarding preschool registration.  It is still looking like it will happen sometime in mid-January and take place on the state website.  You can find out news about the Universal Preschool Program at this link.

LOST & FOUND - Our lost and found items will be donated on December 22nd.  We have relocated the articles to the central hallway and many of the students have retrieved their items already.  Please remind them to check it out or you can be escorted to the lost and found before or after school.  Thank you!

OPEN ENROLLMENT
If your student has been accepted for open enrollment in the past, they are grandfathered in for the remainder of their elementary school years and you do not need to fill out a new form annually.  New incoming siblings however, will need to have an open enrollment form filled out.

Once they move on to middle school, you will have to fill out a new Open Enrollment form for whatever school you choose to enroll in (if it is not your home school).  Outgoing fifth grade families: you will need to fill out this form if you are not choosing your home middle school for the 23-34 school year.

If you receive a notification that your 23-24 open enrollment has been deleted, it is because it was not needed.

LATE START
There will be no late start in January.  The next one will be February 1st .  School starts at 11:30am.

There are many cultural holidays celebrated around the world throughout the year. We’ve created a quick collection highlighting some favorite books exploring these colorful holidays through story. (Link) To enter Diversity Reads drawing email your student's first name, last initial and teacher to: info@highlandshawkspto.com or comment on Highlands Elementary PTO Facebook.

Happy Bodhi Day! Bodhi Day is a holiday which falls on December 8th and celebrates the day in which Siddhartha Gautama sat underneath the Bodhi tree and attained enlightenment. This one defining moment would become the central foundation upon which Buddhism has been built upon for the last 2,500 years. Explore this and other holiday celebrations from around the world in this link from Boulder County Clerk.

Some teachers may not have their wish list up yet, but if you have questions, you can email David Welch.  welch_david@svvsd.org
