Every month, in City Council Chambers, decisions are being made with important implications for the future of our historic community and the Downtown District.  As the City’s leading preservation advocate, the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, Inc., monitors and responds to key local preservation issues.

Architectural Review Board (June 10) – Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) application for the demolition of 609 Sophia Street (the former Masonic Lodge – Prince Hall Lodge #61).  See the COA APPLICATION for details…

Planning Commission (June 12) – Special Exception and Special Permit requests in connection with proposed 56-foot structure at the corner of Hanover and Sophia Streets (the 5-story One Hanover condominium development).  Read more about the project HERE.

Resolution 13-__, Affirming or reversing the Architectural Review Board Decision to Deny a Certificate of Appropriateness for Façade Improvements at 314 William Street
Planning Commission Meeting – Wednesday June 12th 7:30pm
Item 2. Zoning Special Exceptions requested for One Hanover condominium project
at Hanover and Sophia Streets.
a.     Increase building height to 56’ (50’ allowed)
b.     Increase Floor Area Ratio to 3.225 (current limit is 3.0)
c.      Allow 15% commercial on the ground floor (current requirement for mixed use is 100%)
d.     Increase to 40 residential units per acre (current limit is 36)

Planning Commission: You can contact individual members of the Planning Commission directly with your thoughts or questions about particular agenda items. CLICK HERE for Contact Info
Architectural Review Board (ARB): Questions about the ARB’s agenda items should be directed to the City’s Planning Office (540-372-1179).
City Council Public Comment Guidelines: Time is reserved at the beginning of each regular meeting for the City Council to receive comments from persons who have requested permission to speak.  To do so, call the Clerk of Council at 540-372-1010.
NOTE: When speaking before Council or the City’s other Boards and Commissions, please respect the following guidelines:
Clearly state your name and address.
Take no more than five (5) minutes (brevity is appreciated).
Confine your comments to City business.
Personal attacks on Councilmembers or others will not be tolerated.
