It’s National Preservation Month!  Let’s Celebrate!

Dear members and friends of HFFI,

May is National Preservation Month and, as The National Trust for Historic Preservation is saying, “See! Save! Celebrate!”  Those words ring true here in Fredericksburg and all throughout the State of Virginia.

There are great historic renovation projects taking place all around Fredericksburg and historic destinations are thriving.  Historic buildings are being given new life, historic home museums are buzzing with activity, and important preservation issues, like the future of the Renwick Courthouse, are hot topics of discussion for our members and local residents.

Tourism season is upon us, so be sure to offer a smile and directions to any visitors you see in Downtown. They are here to see and experience the history and historic places that make Fredericksburg so unique.  With the support of its members, HFFI is working diligently to preserve and promote our community’s cultural heritage.  Focusing on protecting it against threats from demolition, inappropriate alterations & remodels, and modern window replacements, which can slowly erode and chip away at this non-renewable history.

Thinking about rehabbing or renovating your historic home or building this summer?  HFFI can help.  We can provide information and technical support in creating a historically sensitive construction plan.  Our committees are filled with experts in research, history, architectural history and historically sensitive construction techniques.  We would be happy to consult with you on your project.  That’s our mission!

Happy Preservation Month!
