Moving Forward with Team;
Enhancing the Vision!

April 2015

Message from the Superintendent

"People, who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society." ~Vince Lombardi

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the TEAM for the hard work that has occurred this school year.  I recognize there have been numerous hours spent on planning and test preparation and lots of sacrifices made within the education community to ensure that our students were adequately prepared for PARCC and other assessments mandated by BESE.  As PHASE 1 of PARCC has made its debut and has ended, students in grades 3-8 will continue to prepare for iLEAP/LEAP (Science and Social Studies); these tests will be administered on Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 15.  PHASE 2 of PARCC will be administered during the week of May 4-8.  As we continue our testing journey this school year, I want to encourage and commend our educators and students for their efforts. Despite the rigor of the assessments, I have faith in the TEAM and trust that we will be successful.  Putting forth the best effort is all that can be asked of anyone.  Vince Lombardi said it best when he asserted that "people who work together will win;" it is evident that the TEAM worked together to achieve success.  We are prepared to claim a victory!

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Easter! We will observe Good Friday with school closure. There will be no school during the week of April 6-12.  Students and employees will return on Monday, April 13.
     The St. Martin Parish School Board meeting was called to order by Mark Hebert, Board President.  The prayer and pledge of allegiance were offered by Dr. Lottie P. Beebe, Superintendent.  Accolades were presented as follows:
Mrs. Tina Pierre, Child Welfare and Attendance Secretary, was presented a plaque for having been selected as the March, 2015 Employee of the Month.  Regional and Parish Social Studies student winners were acknowledged.
     Mr. Louis Blanchard, Breaux Bridge High School Principal, presented certificates to the BBHS Lady Tigers Basketball Team for an outstanding 2014-2015 basketball season. The Lady Tigers were acknowledged for an overall record of 28-4 and a perfect district record of 12-0 and for advancing to the State Quarterfinals.
     Mrs. Redell Louis was commended for successfully writing a proposal for the Believe and Prepare Grant.  She and other members of the team including Mr. Anthony Polotzola, and Dr. Dalcourt submitted the proposal to the Louisiana Department of Education and were successful in obtaining $10,000 to aid in the retention of new teachers.
     A Resolution of Sympathy was approved for the families of Jason Melancon, grandfather of Ms. Khristy Hulin, Safe Schools Coordinator, and Mrs. Sharon Dayton, St. Martinville Sr. High Art Instructor.  Our heartfelt condolences are also extended to other family members and friends.  For additional agenda items, please click here.

For the most up to date information regarding testing for Grades 3-8, click here.
We currently have several large construction projects going on around the district.  These projects are funded with remaining funds from the 2009 Bond and the 2013 Bond monies.  Schools in the Breaux Bridge area will be reconfigured with Breaux Bridge Elementary moving to the same campus as Breaux Bridge Primary and the sixth grade students will be moving to Breaux Bridge Junior High.  In order to meet the needs of the reconfiguration, new classroom building are being added at Breaux Bridge Primary and Breaux Bridge Junior High. Read more.
St. Martin Parish is the recipient of a $10,000 grant as part of the Believe and Prepare initiative through the Louisiana Department of Education.  These funds will be used to assist in developing a program designed to aid the district in preparing classroom ready, effective classroom teachers, thereby increasing teacher retention.  The goal is to pilot a mentoring program, with intentions of receiving additional funding for the 2016-2017 school year.
I want to reiterate my appreciation to Courtesy Automotive in Breaux Bridge for its sponsorship of the 2015 Courtesy Video Competition.  We are looking forward to the announcement of winners of the three awards--first place receives a monetary award of $18,000 or a choice of a 2015 Ford Fusion or 2015 Chrysler 200; a second place award of $1000, and a third place award of $500. The videos receiving the most votes will emerge as winners in the aforementioned categories. The contest deadline is April 3, 2015.   Thanks to everyone who supported this endeavor and we look forward to future partnering between the St. Martin Parish School System and Courtesy Motors!

St. Martin Parish Virtual Learning Open House

The St. Martin Parish Virtual Learning Program will hold Open House on April 21st and May 5th from 6:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. This event is being held to give interested parties an opportunity to learn how our current Virtual Program works.  The Virtual Learning Supervisor and Facilitators will be on hand to discuss the policies and procedures as well as answer any questions you may have.  Open House will be held at the St. Martin Parish Virtual Learning Center, 328 North Main Street, Breaux Bridge, La.  The program was started to address the educational needs of students via a non-traditional approach to achieve a world-class education.  Virtual students have access to all the same advantages of public school students and homeschooled students while working towards a Louisiana High School Diploma.
Construction is underway at both Breaux Bridge Primary and Breaux Bridge Elementary and the  anticipated completion date is July, 2015.  Breaux Bridge Primary will house students in grades Pre-K-2 and Breaux Bridge Elementary will house students in grades 3-5.  Both Breaux Bridge Primary and Breaux Bridge Elementary will operate as distinct campuses on the same site.  Mrs. Lydia Capdepon is the principal of Breaux Bridge Primary.  Mrs. Joy Cormier is the principal of Breaux Bridge Elementary.  Should parents have any questions regarding enrollment, they should contact either principal.  The reconfiguration of the two schools will afford school administrators and other educators greater opportunity for collaboration among other advantages.  Sixth grade students will begin the August, 2015 school year at Breaux Bridge Jr. High; students in grades 6-8 will attend Breaux Bridge Jr. High.  Mrs. Denise Frederick, Principal, is to be contacted if there are any questions regarding this transition. School construction projects are also underway at Breaux Bridge Jr. High to accommodate the increase in student population.
