What is health?

UBC Health facilitates collaborations across UBC to advance the quality of and innovation in health education and research. The ultimate aim is to improve the health of individuals and communities.

How to define health is a relevant question for UBC Health, and we realized the importance of providing clarity around our working definition of health. We conducted a review of definitions of health and worked with our partners to develop a definition of health that resonates with the work that we're currently doing and provides context for our future priorities:

Health is an attribute of individuals, communities, and societies and is a fundamental resource for daily living

Visioning retreat first step in broad engagement around team-based care

The vision for the future of primary care in British Columbia is team-based care, and UBC Health has been facilitating the development of a strategy to build and evaluate team-based models of care that could provide valuable learning for healthcare in BC. 

The TBC@UBC collaborative invited partners to a virtual retreat aimed at creating a collective vision for a team-based care learning environment at UBC. Participants contributed to an asset map, identified values and principles, and discussed opportunities.

Award-winning educator joins UBC Health

With experience in the health field as an occupational therapist for 35 years combined with a passion for education and 30 years as an instructor, Donna Drynan fits in perfectly as the new Director of Education at UBC Health.

She has developed undergraduate and graduate courses, workshops for clinical educators and preceptors, and a guide for incorporating interprofessional experiences into practice education settings.

Deadline reminder for UBC Health Awards + Scholarship submissions

The 2020 UBC Health awards and scholarships recognize the academic and research excellence of students and faculty from various health disciplines at UBC as well as the achievements of health educators, professionals, and community partners across BC. 

There are award categories for UBC faculty, health educators, professionals, and community partners. Scholarships are available for UBC students in health or human services degree program.

A reminder that the deadline for submissions is November 30, so there's still time to get your nominations in!
