year of the horse

Friday, January 31st, marks the beginning of Chinese New Year and 2014 is the Year of the Yang Wood Horse. In Chinese astrology, the energy of the Horse is one of great optimism, momentum, inspiration, and grand new beginnings.  I resonate with this energy and am happy to be moving into a new phase creativity, service, learning, and well-being! I wish the same for you. :)

The months ahead are already getting busy... See below for my February event schedule and feel free to write or call for more information. In the meantime, here is a wonderful little article on the Year of the Horse for those of you who are interested in or curious about Chinese astrology for 2014. It's a very upbeat read!

february tai chi events

Chinese New Year Demonstration
My friend Kelly Hong-Williams is organizing Taiji demonstrations for Saturday, February 1st. Performances will be at 1, 1:30, 2, and 2:30 at the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham. My friend Jeff Blake and I will be doing the tuishou (pushing hands) portion of the demo. It should be a fun and lively event.

Tai Chi Pushing Hands Workshop
Also in collaboration with Kelly's studio in Ferndale, this workshop will focus on pushing hands fundamentals. These two-person exercises are an effective way to strengthen your practice and deepen your understanding of Tai Chi. Partner practice gives greater depth to your solo form and makes your entire study more beneficial and enjoyable.
This workshop will be held over two Saturday sessions: February 15th and March 1st from 10:00 - 4:00 pm. Tuition is 65/session.
To reserve your place, contact me or Kelly at 360.296.5740

A Bowen Island Tai Chi Weekend
On February 8th and 9th, my good friend Jan Parker is hosting another open weekend of Tai Chi practice with emphasis on two-person work. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet great people, learn a lot, and have a fantastic time. I encourage anyone interested to take advantage of this fun and educational event. Contact Jan Parker at jan@janparkerarts.com for more information.

A Day of Qigong
My friend Kathleen recently opened the Center for Holistic Wellness in Sedro Wooley and I'll be teaching a 1-day workshop there Saturday, February 22nd 10:30 to 4:30. I'm looking forward to this event and introducing some new material I have been working with as well as elements from my current studies in NLP and alpha brain states that relate directly to qigong.

BONUS: Current students of my Bellingham classes receive a 15% discount on all workshops.

other news...

Qigong Book Proof Readers. I'm currently in the process of completing an update of The Heart of Qigong. If you have an interest in giving it a test ride and providing some feedback prior to publication, I'd love to have you on board. Give a shout and I'll send you the first few sections.

Small Group and Private Lessons. If you would like to learn Tai Chi and/or qigong but have schedule conflicts with normal group classes, I offer private and small group study options. I've done much of my own study this way and find it a very effective and enjoyable way to learn. Location can be either at my office or at your home. Call for more information or to schedule...

Integrative bodywork and transpersonal hypnotherapy: I am currently receiving new clients at the office and will soon be accepting credit cards thanks to my new smart phone. Yep, it seems I've finally joined the 21st century. :)  All sessions are tailored to your specific goals and free 20 minute consult sessions are available upon request.

That's all for now... wishing you all inspiring days, peaceful nights, and happy practicing!
