This month we hear from Sally Corfe, who has been a friend of Fusion Y&C UK for over half a decade. A couple of years ago Sally shared in one of these newsletters how being a part of the Fusion team as a volunteer opened her eyes to the transforming power of Christ-centered community. So as Skye shares about the final aspect of the Process of Mission (Helping others find their place in God's local and global purpose) Sally shares more of what that journey has looked like for her!

Dignity and Hope for Cambodia

How One Mum from Bucks Was Moved to Action by God's Heart for a Wounded Nation

I first went to Cambodia in 2010 with a short term mission organisation. We supplied medical clinics for poor people living in rural Cambodia. It was a time of deep challenge and heartbreak for me as I witnessed poverty in breath-taking and brutal reality, breathed the same air with the wonderful people of Cambodia, and found out some more about their terrible history of the genocide which left no family in the whole country unaffected.

When I returned home it was hard... hard to accept my easy life, hard to understand why I have free healthcare, free schooling for my kids, and a welfare state that prevents true poverty. I stayed in contact with Sophany and some of the staff at Kone Kmeng (a Christian NGO) and started to raise a little money where I could for them.
But the silent scream in my heart of
"DO SOMETHING",
was like a deep itch that I couldn't get to!
Two years after my first visit, I returned to Cambodia with two supportive friends in order to figure out what God was asking of us, why I couldn't leave the country in my past, how we could support them from the other side of the world. One of those friends had also caught the vision, that we CAN make a difference, that we were being asked to be involved.

On returning home we decided to set up a UK based charity to support Kone Kmeng and other similar organisations in the most tax efficient way, with clarity and integrity, and to raise awareness for the issues people face in Cambodia today. The 'Dignity & Hope Foundation, Cambodia' is the result. In our first two years of operation we have sent an amazing £29,000 to projects in Cambodia.

There have been many challenges to establishing this charity but the biggest challenge remains inspiring other people that we CAN make a difference, that we don't need to sit on our hands and look in the other direction as people suffer through poverty and exploitation, and that a little money can transform an entire community in Cambodia...if we would only do something.
I have learned that I CAN...
if God asks me to...then I CAN!
And that encompasses planning trips for teams to Cambodia, booking flights, arranging visas, supporting teams, communicating with the Cambodian team and growing in relationship with them, none of which I have any formal training or previous experience in.

I have learned that I can speak to groups of people, large or small, and enjoy it! Previously my fear of public speaking was so severe that it left me shaking and in tears if I had to do so. God has grown my compassion for the needy, and my willingness and ability to DO SOMETHING!

I am so thankful that I heard God's voice and decided to take that first step into mission. I am thankful that God has entrusted me with this project, and I am HUGELY thankful that he continues to equip me in this task. I am truly thankful for the people he has put around me that encourage and support me, from the tech support with the website, to the planning of fundraising events and prayer support for all we do. I am thankful for being a child of God who is on a journey expressing God's love in practical ways to the poor and the lost of Cambodia.

(As our readers might be considering what God is asking of them for their life, be it in a new season of life, a change of vocation or to keep going where they are, what would you like to say to them?)

Trust God. Test what you believe he is asking of you, and then be obedient. If he has called you he will also equip you. And then DO SOMETHING! Things that might seem impossible to us are possible for God.

The Fusion Y&C UK team want to thank our friend Sally for sharing her encouraging story with us!

Helping People Find Their Role In God's Local and Global Purpose
by Skye Leon

Were you encouraged by Sally's story? I was! I feel privileged to belong to a team of people who have provided fellowship, resourcing and encouragement to Sally and many others as they have also grappled with the big longings of their heart; to make a difference with Christ and and bring Godly change to the UK and beyond.

It's no accident that the final aspect of the Process of Mission is what it is. The very reason the process of mission exists is to be able to help people find their God given place in his Kingdom purposes. The Process of Mission is about discipleship; helping people to know that their life was meant to be lived following Jesus and to help them discover just how rich life becomes when we do!

Christ brings liberation from our past mistakes, a freedom to walk in a better future and an ability to experience the present in God's presence. When we discover this for ourselves we discover it is God's desire for EVERYONE to follow Jesus and receive the inheritance that he has purchased for us! As we find our God given place, we are motivated to help others find theirs!

So in all that we do, be it prayer, research, broad legitimate contact, role modelling, educating, giving people an opportunity to receive Jesus, or helping them integrate into a community of worship, we do it as a response to 'The Great Commission', when Jesus said:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28)

So wherever you are, in whatever capacity you serve Jesus and his bigger mission story, I pray that you will be empowered by the faithful presence of the Lord in your life. I pray that you might enjoy communion with him as you co-labour with Jesus to help people find their place in his wonderful Kingdom.
