Dear <<First Name>>
Welcome to Fusion Youth and Community UK's
Monthly Update for September!
Two months have flown by for the Fusion UK team! First their was the annual British Pilgrimage of Hope, then the Reading team headed to Soul Survivor. Next Skye and Jenny joined the Fusion team in Wheatley for their annual Holiday Club while Claire and Marty helped the team in Albania to run a Foundations course. We hope you are encouraged as you hear first hand accounts from our team! Also included is our latest Process of Mission spot which looks at the importance of helping others learn about God and faith through "education".

A Summer of Kingdom Connections

The Fusion Y&C UK team share their highlights from an action packed Summer of Mission

British Pilgrim Christine shares what the journey meant for her...   Being pilgrims has finally come to an end, wow!! What a journey it has been! We’ve traveled a fair bit and traced back the foot steps of inspiring saints. But nevertheless we have learned incredible things not only about ourselves but about the love of God for each and everyone of us, followed with the gracious ways he reveals himself to us. This experience will be treasured as one by one we return home with the love of Christ,
and his grace and peace. We will carry back some of the things we have learned along our way. Its a journey which will be different to the person standing on our left but a journey through faith that we got to experience together. We all have a unique story and have taken different paths along our journey but coming together to share that moment as a group of friends has been something remarkable.
-Christine, 16, has returned home to Reading where she has just started year 12
Skye's delight in sowing seeds...    "I love working with kids. I came to faith when I was five or six so I really value time spent with children. While on a Pilgrimage mission placement my team was helping Balham Community Church with their very first holiday club. During small group time the kids were really talkative and asking questions. I felt led to respond at one point by saying  There's nothing you can do that would stop God from loving you”.
As I said it I was looking at Dana*, an eleven year old muslim girl. Her entire face just lit up! I think it was the first time she had heard this but I could see she believed it. What a privilege to have seen that seed of hope and love planted in her heart!"
-Skye Leon, Fusion Whitley (Reading).
Andy, our team leader in Lancashire, joined us for Part B of the pilgrimage; the Celtic phase. Which four words would he use to sum up the journey?
"Refreshing, thin vale, new friends"

Would you or someone you know benefit from going on the pilgrimage journey? Now would be a great time to start fundraising for next year's trip!  Not sure how? Feel free to check out our Fundraising Pack for fun and easy ideas on how to fund-raise effectively.
Claire's Albania experience...          I spent 2 weeks in Albania where, with the Fusion team and UK team mate Marty Woods, we ran a Foundations course for 64 high school students. What a blast! There was the journey that we all took with God exploring the cornerstones of our faith. I had the privilege of taking some of the evening sessions and stepping in to support the small groups from time to time. Witnessing the heart felt response of gratitude for
all that was accomplished on the cross, was really moving. There were many tears that night with young people praying with one another till late. Then the next night the palpable excitement in the room as they rummaged through the bible to discover what Eternal Life really is. My personal highlight for the week came at the end of that session when three young lads came bounding up to me and asked me to pray for them. -Claire Bankole, Fusion Whitley (Reading)
Jenny's reflection on Wheatley's Holiday Club...
This was my third time participating in Fusion Wheatley Holiday Club. The buzz of excitement across the ages was palpable each day. For kids to have the time and space to create, get messy, do things beyond their perceived capability and celebrate their achievements afterwards were all good and worthwhile things. But to see the level of care and intentional interaction from the team of volunteers, be they the fifteen year old helpers who have come up through the ranks, the silver-haired morning registrars who love getting a glimpse of the day ahead, the craft team who put heart and soul into their programmes so they run as smoothly as possible,  the kitchen team supplying endless drinks to a demanding lot of leaders and
always with a smile, the lunchtime team who donned high vis jackets and willingly headed out into the rain yet again...and I could go on!
The African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" proves right. When a village does come together to raise a child, or run a holiday club, the whole community benefits. From the littlest to the oldest, they all take away something special and unique. A small taste of heaven, if you like. Our prayer is that they have taken back to their homes a little more understanding of who God is and what it means to be a Jesus follower. As a village in Oxfordshire, Wheatley is becoming what God has intended. I think after ten years of operation, the Holiday Club has something to do with that.                                             -Jenny Woods, Fusion Croydon

The Process of Mission is Fusion's way of articulating the key aspects we have found to be necessary for reaching whole communities and seeing people find their place in God's Kindgom. If you'd like to be encouraged on your journey of life and mission, we hope these spotlights will do just that and provide helpful food for thought!

Process of Mission Spotlight:
Education
by Skye Leon, Fusion Whitley

In the process of mission there are some things we do, like festivals, that don't explicitly share the gospel using words, but serve to build relationships with people. As we build these relationships, we represent the gospel in tangible ways. We love people with God's love, showing his grace, mercy and generosity with the hope that our friends and neighbours will want to know more about the gift we give and the God who asks us to share it.

EDUCATION in the process of mission is therefore about providing answers to the questions that will arise as people encounter authentic faith and grace being lived out. Why is everything at this festival free? Where do you get your sense of peace from? Why do you turn up every week to this lunch club? Why do you go to church? Can God really love me?

Of course, this means we need to make sure we have opportunities, places, time and resources to be able to provide answers that point people back to God and show them how they can know him too.
That's why, for example, if there aren't youth groups and bible study groups for young people in the places where Fusion is working with youth, we will work with others to get a faith discipleship group up and running.

Programs and opportunities for educating people about God, the gospel and faith can be as varied and creative as the outreaches that occur in your community. Here are some examples you might find helpful if you are wanting to develop this aspect of your local mission further;
Thanks for reading our latest national update! We hope you have been encouraged by reading our summer highlights!

Many blessings,

Skye Leon,
