Garden City Grant: An edible food forest is coming to Holt! A big shout out, congratulations and thank you to group members Corey Le Mesurier and Arthur Lau who submitted a successful grant application for an ACT Government Community Garden Grant 2021-22. The successful grant of approx $7,500 is to establish a food forest garden as part of the Holt Community Micro-Forest initiative. The grant was submitted in conjunction with Capital Region Community Services.
The food forest garden will use sustainable gardening techniques to develop a layered forest of edible plants for the community. The initiative will be led by Corey and Arthur, and will be intertwined with the Holt Micro-Forest project. The food forest will also be reflected in the Micro-Forest landscape design currently being drafted by The Climate Factory. An online community consultation session will be held via zoom on Sunday 24 October from 4 - 5.30 pm. The session will focus on introducing the food forest concept and then discussing species selection and community values to translate into design priorities. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our First Community Consultation Session: Thank you everyone who attended our Online Community Consultation session on Sunday 1 August at 4 pm via Zoom (and thank you Liesl Codrington - Social Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement and Edwina The Climate Factory for facilitating the session). This picture below is of the mural we created throughout the session - capturing pictures and ideas for the Micro-Forest. At the end of the session each participant was allocated 5 votes to help identify the priorities. The written report from this session is now available on our website on the Resources Page.

Keeping our park safe and clean! Would you like to help keep our Holt Micro-Forest and Food Garden site safe and clean (the Boyle playground and green-space)? Why not join our clean up team! All you will need to do is walk or jog around the park semi-regularly to pick up rubbish. Your kit will be provided to you. Kids gloves are also available! Email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
Our Next Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser: Our Bunnings fundraiser in July raised over $1400 towards our Micro-Forest. Our next fundraiser event at Bunnings Belconnen is scheduled for Sunday 12 December this year. We are seeking community volunteers to help out with a shift on the day, please email email@example.com if you can assist! The additional funding will help add more features to our Micro-Forest such as additional seating and signage in and around our Micro-Forest and Food Garden. Thank you to community member Silvia Ugrinic for organising this again.
