About Eric de Vroedt
Born in 1972, director, writer and actor Eric de Vroedt is considered to be one of the most important Dutch theatre artists. In 2012, he was awarded the Amsterdamprijs, the most prestigious art award of the Netherlands, for his ten-episode series “MightySociety”, written and directed by him. In the past two years, the Schauspielhaus Bochum produced two of his productions: Hugo Claus’ “FREITAG” (season 2013/14) and Judith Herzberg’s "LEAS HOCHZEIT"(season 2014/15). His productions oscillate between realistic seriousness, formal lightness, and playful humour. From September 2016 on, Eric de Vroedt will be the artistic director of the National Theatre 'Nationale Toneel' in The Hague/Netherlands.

THE EUROPEAN OF THE YEAR
#1 Wolfgang Schäuble

Directed by Eric de Vroedt
Featuring Aglaia Katsiki
Special appearance Ioannis Panagopoulos

Aglaia chose the 72 year old German finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble, who is fairly known for his tough restrictions in context of the Greek dept crisis, as a character. Using a montage of profiteer Shylock’s monologue from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, she critically exposes the image of Schäuble as “an ordinary politician repeating old mistakes”.
