SCBC is awarded 20 quota spots per gender. Extra quotas may be available two weeks before the championship.
A selection event will be held on January 29, 2022 at the Richmond Oval for all SCBC athletes born in 2006 or earlier who don’t have a bye from CEC for the National Championship. Athletes with byes are welcome to participate.
The format will consist of two flash routes per gender.
The top 20 athletes without byes will receive an invitation to the National Championships. If an athlete declines their invitation and if CEC awards more quota spots, the unused invitations will be presented to the next athlete on the ranking of the selection event. Stay tuned for infosheet and schedule.
JANUARY 29: SPEED NATIONALS SELECTION
A selection event will be held on January 29, 2022 at the Richmond Oval for all SCBC athletes born in 2004 or earlier who don’t have a bye from CEC for the National Championship. Athletes with byes are welcome to participate. Quotas and details will be communicated as soon as made available. Stay tuned for infosheet and schedule.
MARCH 10-11 2022: CEC OPEN HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPETITION (HPC)
SCBC can submit invitation requests to CEC for up to two athletes per category for boulder and lead disciplines.
SCBC will request an invitation to the HPC for the next two SCBC athletes on the Continuous National Ranking (CNR) after the National Championship of the relevant discipline, who are not already invited through CEC’s other selection criteria.
Rationale: the CNR is the tool used by CEC to select athletes to the High Performance Program, therefore athletes who are most interested in joining the High Performance Program and can make the best use of an invitation to the HPC will be ranked on the CNR.
In case of a tie on the CNR, the ranking at the most recent National Championship will be used for separation.
Rationale: participation at the National Championships is required by CEC in order to receive this invite and will be the most recent event that all eligible athletes will have competed in.
SCBC will be able to request invitations at the conclusion of Open Lead Nationals, when all CEC invitations have been sent, which include athletes on the Combined (boulder and lead) ranking.
We are expecting clarification from CEC regarding the quotas for Youth Events in the upcoming weeks. Once we have all the necessary information available, we will communicate the selection process for the Youth CEC competitions. We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility.
