On August 28, the company that hosts our SCBC website was the victim of a cyberattack. While they were able to detect the attack early on and limit the damage, a small number of their servers were completely erased, along with the backup to those servers. The SCBC website and email services were unfortunately on one of those servers.
We do not have confirmation of whether the data was compromised prior to the servers being erased, but we are taking the utmost precaution and assuming that it has been compromised. The data we have on file for our members includes the following: first name, last name, birth date, address, phone number and email. Individual passwords are stored encrypted, however due to the sophistication of this attack we are also assuming that this encryption could be broken.
Based on the above, we strongly recommend that those who have used the same or similar passwords over multiple sites change their passwords to protect themselves. Please also be on the lookout for phishing attempts that may appear to have your personal data, as this is a common practice to attempt to get people to log into a false fronted website and reveal their password.
Our website is currently undergoing an update and we will be bringing the new site online sometime in the near future. All previous login credentials have been reset and we will be asking users to set up new passwords.
