SCBC 2020/21 Competition Climbing Season
Dear BC Climbing Community,

As we head towards summer following the loss of an entire competition year due to Covid-19, the SCBC Board of Directors is hopeful that we will be able to have more of a "normal" competition year beginning in the fall. We are hoping to engage more of our members as we start the planning process for the 2021/22 comp season as we look for new committee members and competition officials.

Competition Committee Members Needed

The purpose of the SCBC Competition Committee is to guide and grow the sport of competitive climbing in BC. Specific tasks include:

  • organizing competition calendar for youth and adults in BC
  • host, promote, organize and sanction climbing competitions in BC
  • maintaining consistency in rules and format of competitions in BC
  • supporting gyms hosting climbing competitions and climbing related events
  • design and implement training and standards for SCBC officials
SCBC is in need of several new members for the Comp Committee, given that many past members have moved on to other endeavours.

Please submit your application to athleterep@sportclimbingbc.ca and include a brief outline of experiences that are relevant to the Committee. Feel free to approach any board member if you have questions.

All applications due June 15, 2021.

Competition Officials Needed

SCBC is looking to building our pool of Technical Delegates and Jury Presidents to officiate at our local and provincial events.
  • Technical Delegate (TD) - works with the JP and Hosting facility to ensure the competition abides by SCBC rules and regulations, and ensure fair play for all athletes
  • Jury President (JP) - has overall responsibility within all competition areas (climbing walls, ISO etc.) and is responsible for all aspects of judging in the competition
If you are interested in learning more about these positions and possibly helping out at competitions next season, please contact president@sportclimbingbc.ca. Much on-the-job training will be provided by experienced officials, and interested individuals will gain experience by shadowing experienced officials prior to having the opportunity to be a lead official.

Just a reminder that there have been no changes to the Covid-19 restrictions in BC as they apply to climbing. Please continue to support your home gym and follow their policies and restrictions.

  • Athletes can only climb at their home facility.
  • CSI identified athletes can travel within their health region.
  • Sport Canada carded athletes (Sean & Alannah) can travel across health regions.
