SCBC 2021/22 Competition Climbing Season
Dear BC Climbing Community,

Climbing Escalade Canada will be hosting the Senior Boulder National Championships on November 27-28 at Délire Escalade in Québec City. Each Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO) only has a certain number of quota for athetes to attend. Here is all the important information for athletes who are interested in qualifying for this event.

Who can attend?

Senior events are for athletes who are 16 years or older (2006 birth year and older).

How do I qualify?

1. Prequalified athletes

Current National High Performance Program Athletes and reigning Youth National Champions (Jr, YA, YB) have received a direct invitation to the Senior National Championships. BC athletes who are prequalified for the Senior Boulder National Championships are: Alannah Yip, Allison Vest, Becca Frangos, Sophie Buitendyk, Ethan Hoffman, Guy McNamee, Kindar McNamee, Oscar Baudrand, Sean Faulkner, Sean McColl and Tosh Sherkat. These athletes are not part of the BC quota.

2. Top 70% at NACS Kanata, October 23-24

Athletes who finish in the top 70% of the field at the NACS event October 23-24 at Altitude Gym in Kanata, Ontario will be issued the first SCBC quota spots for the Senior National Boulder Championships. The North American Cup Series provides a high-level competition series for advanced and elite athletes from North America. Placements from NACS events are used in the Continuous National Ranking (CNR) that allows athletes to be selected for the CEC High Performance Program (HPP) and ultimately to compete internationally for Team Canada. Note: Registration for NACS Kanata closes on October 15th.

3. BC Selection Event - November 6, Climb Base5 North Vancouver

Any remaining BC quota spots for the Senior National Boulder Championships will be issued to athletes based on their ranking at a selection event to take place at Climb Base5 North Van on November 6. This will be a small event with one round of five on five off boulders. It will only be open to athletes wishing to qualify for the Senior National Boulder Championships. Athletes who are prequalified (#1) or have qualified via NACS Kanata (#2) may not attend. Registration details for this event will be available soon.

SCBC has chosen to prioritize our quota spots for the Senior National Boulder Championships to those athletes who are actively vying for a place on the Senior Canadian National Team. The NACS is an important component of the qualifying process. Priority has therefore been given to those athletes attending NACS Kanata. Please contact if you have any questions about this process.
