Kia ora koutou and Happy New Year,
Last year we continued our drive to provide an affordable, safe and comfortable home to women in Wellington. We would like to thank you for your support which has enabled us to build a firm foundation for women when they really need it.
Report on AGM:
We welcomed eight new committee members to our team who will be working with staff and residents to ensure that we continue to be recognised for the much-needed service we provide. Our careful budgeting and can-do attitude along with donations from people like you means we are entering 2015 in a strong position to continue delivering our service. We have redecorated a number of rooms thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, and with generous donations we now have desks and computers that our residents can now easily access.
We still have some way to go before all our rooms are brought up to the same high standard, and following feedback from our residents forum we are going to be installing extra security features to make sure that all our residents feel secure.
This month one of our residents has moved into a home of her own and the told us her story.
Find out more about the difference we are making.
Can you help?
Our House needs people like you to raise awareness of our work. Please like us on Facebook
and share our posts. By helping us to raise our profile you can ensure that women who need us know where to look.
Good-condition towels needed
If your linen cupboard is looking full, we are running very low on towels. Sadly many women staying at the house at the moment have arrived (and are continuing to arrive) with absolutely nothing, so our linen stores are getting very low. If you can help please email our manager Margaret
We would like to say a huge thank you to our growing list of supporters, including everyone who helped to make a difference over Christmas with donations to goodie bags for our residents: Mr Thank You
, Zonta (Mana)
, New World CBD
, Embassy Theatre
, Body Shop
, The Chocolate Cake Company
for donating toiletries, gifts and shoes before and after Christmas, and Neesha Morar and Averil Wills and the team at Kiwibank and Inland Revenue's Office of the Chief Tax Counsel who have been involved in the Dress for Success Wellington's Professional Women's Group
which sourced linen and items for the goodie bags and helped prepare them.
A huge thanks to Victoria N and friends who had a clothing swap party and donated the remaining items to our women - they had a ball trying everything on and some of them scored some really nice stuff!
A big shout-out to the 'baking bitches' who call round with homemade cake or biscuits for the women each Sunday.
Ka kite anō.
Many thanks for continued support from Matt and his team at Kaibosh
for the weekly donation of veggies and bread.
We'd also like to thank our volunteers Jennifer , Pip, Ellen, Connie and Emma H for their hard work as over the past year this year.
