Firstly, we'd like to say a huge thank you for everyone who came out to our film-night fundraiser. We had a full house and with donations and a raffle we managed to raise over $2000 towards keeping our rents affordable. It all makes a huge difference to our residents.
to help us to keep our house accessible to all women who need it. Even a small regular contribution can make a world of difference.
Our
annual report for 2015 is now available. Here you can find out all about our house, hear from our residents about their experience in the house, and see details about what we managed to achieve last year.
Highlights include becoming a living wage employer, and becoming members of
Community Housing Aotearoa and
Community Networks Wellington.
Women's stories
“I have learnt so much about how to accept and live with other people. By facing my fears I have a better understanding of what and how I can contribute to people and participate in life”
– Rose, 42
Are you having a clear out of carpet, curtains or paint?
Carpet: A big ask but we could really use a donation of a piece of carpet – roughly 4.5m x 4m for a bedroom, and some long curtains (3m drop if possible) for our lounge which is our next room we are hoping to make over.
We're also on the look out for good quality chests of drawers and 2 small student desks.
Also anyone with some spare neutral colour paint for the walls? We are having a corporate volunteers working bee in mid April. Please contact Margaret at
house@wwbh.org.nz.
Thank you!
We would like to thank all those who have donated goods and services to the boarding house over the past few months including Tam for the donation of Paint, St Vincent de Paul in Newtown who gave WWBH Easter Eggs to give to our residents,
Good Bitches Baking, Ellen Blake, Jen Blake, Dr Michelle Thunders,
Kaibosh,
IAG (State Insurance),
ANZ and all the individuals from the businesses who dropped by with goods. And a special shout out to
BECA Engineers who provided heaps toiletries just before Christmas.
We'd also like to thank Gail and the rest of the team at
Bunnings who have organised for some plants, compost, and rose mulch for our house.
Thanks for all those who continue to donate good quality women's clothing and shoes and toiletries.
We can't get over your generosity!
