Safe Sun Facts and Tips

 


The sun offers many health benefits that sunscreens will block, like your ability to produce vitamin D.  Vitamin D deficiency can increase your odds of developing many diseases including melanoma.  Spending time in the sun also has other beneficial properties such as pain-killing properties, increased subcutaneous fat metabolism, regulation of human lifespan, daytime sun exposure improves evening alertness and conversion to metabolic energy.

 
Tips
  • Expose large amounts of skin to sunlight for short periods of time (about 20 minutes) to let your body produce vitamin D
  • When in the sun for longer periods of time, cover up with clothing, a hat or shade
  • Consume a healthy diet full of natural antioxidants to help you avoid sun damage to your skin.  This includes a health balance of omega-6 and omega -3 fatty oils.

Mango Coconut Arugula Salad

 

Get creative with your salad recipes! One of our top tips for staying Young and Raw is to have at least 1 big green salad a day amidst all of your other choices. Load your body up with phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals and of course water by eating fresh whole foods each day. Don’t be afraid to try new things, variety is wonderful for your health and also trains your brain to associate pleasure and enjoyment with your new healthy choices.

Ingredients:
 

  • 3 Cups of Arugula
  • 1 Cup of Mixed Greens
  • 1/2 Fresh Mango, Sliced
  • 1/2 Avocado, Sliced
  • Sprinkle of Walnuts
  • Sprinkle of Dried Coconut

Instructions:

Sliced your mango and avocado and place overtop of your greens and garnish with walnuts and coconut. For a dressing, you can squeeze fresh lime juice, or a drizzle of oil free balsamic.
