Important Update

Dear readers,

We’ve got some exciting news: Kitchissippi Times is back.

In April, like many local businesses and organizations, the Kitchissippi Times team had to make some tough decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic. This included suspending our printed monthly publication.

But that didn’t stop us from producing local news. These last months, we were busy keeping up with the community and publishing stories digitally. The Kitchissippi Times website was also redesigned! Check it out at www.kitchissippi.com

Now, we’re thrilled to announce that the print edition of Kitchissippi Times returns to newsstands the week of August 3-7.

Kitchissippi Times has served local readers for more than 17 years, providing a valuable community service that keeps people informed. We have a strong and committed readership.

Kitchissippi Times is 100% local. Locally owned. Locally produced. Local employees, writers and photographers. Local audience. We think LOCAL is more important than ever.

As always, please send us story ideas, letters to the editor and any other updates about our favourite Ottawa neighbourhood.

Stay safe and thank you for all your support!

Olympian at home

This week, Michael Tayler would have been at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In the early spring, the local athlete was set to represent Canada for the third time in men’s canoe/kayak slalom when the pandemic struck. With the Games postponed until 2021, Tayler is at home in Westboro with his family this summer. We caught up with him on the Games, the summer and what the future holds.

Kitchissippi welcomes third cannabis store
At the end of June, Spiritleaf Wellington West opened its doors making it the third cannabis retailer to call Kitchissippi home. Spiritleaf is a Calgary-based cannabis franchise with stores across the country. The location at 1200B Wellington St. W. is the company’s first to open in Ottawa. The new cannabis spot is owned by Kitchissippi resident Shawn Moffatt.

Community Photos: COVID-19 and creating space

As Ontario gradually reopens — businesses, services and public institutions, etc. — we wanted to capture some of the ways in which life has adapted in the ward. Our photographer, Ellen Bond, took photos around the idea of “space” — How our community is balancing reopening while keep everyone safe.
