I am acutely aware of the sun from dawn to dusk and have an emotional response to it. The sunlight can affect my mood and feelings. On a bright sunlit day, I feel unstoppable and cheerful. Although after a succession of overcast and rainy days, I can feel contemplative and melancholy. You would think as an artist I would be inspired to paint green landscapes during sunny summer months. I prefer however to create paintings when the sun is low on the horizon right after a fresh blanket of snow has fallen. The values and colours are sometimes difficult to differentiate. I visualize the blueish grey tones of the shadows painted on a sunny snowy canvas. In the “Nature of Light”, I quest to capture the luminosity of the sun as it dances in and out of the trees, peaks over the horizon and alters its surroundings.
