Dearest Eaters-

Skittles got nothin' on this!! I mean c'mon, this is nature's rainbow and it's simply BREATHTAKING. I love playing with the rainbow...cutting up all manor of earthly delights and pairing vibrant colors & flavors. Even when I've worked a 10-hour day in the field growing this stuff, and I feel like keeling over, something compels me when I step into the kitchen. Suddenly my simple dinner plans turn into 15 different veggies chopped-up in varying ways and spread onto roasting pans and platters. It's like a rainbow threw up all over my countertop.

Summer veggies are the best. A medley of roasted eggplant, sexy summer squash, sweet red peppers, Italian heirloom onions, and Spanish Roja garlic...
Then there's Purple Majesty potatoes and Sungold Cherry Tomatoes. A killer combo...
Sometimes I just roast beets alone (becuase look at these things!!). Our Cylindra beets have smooth velvety flesh and uber sweet meat. In short, they rule!
When you've got ingredients like this to work with, the possibilities are endless and the inspiration is at a high ten! You actually want to eat veggies!! And the kids do too!!!
Our heirloom tomato crop continues to kick ass which keeps me in Caprese Salad heaven:
Farmer Dan has been official "tomato man" this year because me and the rest of the crew are busy picking other things.
I don't think he minds too much because he's in good company...
Our Green Zebras are yielding particularly well. Aesthetically they're stunning, but the taste is even better. Think sweet lemon zest plus rich tomato flavor all in one. It's spectacular!
We'll have seven varieties of equally spectacular tomatoes. And if you can't make up your mind. Just buy one of each so you can do this:
But ENOUGH with the food porn!! You get the point. We've got loads of life-changing ingredients that will rock your taste buds through the roof. We'll even have more of our famous muskmelons this Saturday for early birds. Man...those things flew off the table last week!

And now for some not so upbeat updates. Let's face it, life really isn't pixies and rainbows (no matter how good the food is) and our "real life" dilemmas here at URBAVORE seem insurmountable at times. In short, we work our ASSES off, we struggle to find balance, complications are never-ending, and well, it's just really hard to muster up the "nerve" to keep at this sometimes. Which brings me to this:
Compost Program Update
As you know, our expensive compost dumpster was stolen from the property back in May (steaming with 3000 pounds of food waste!!). Can you imagine? The community was outraged. We were ready to throw in the towel after running a free residential composting program for eight long years, but the overwhelming response sparked us to start a GoFundMe campaign and we successfully raised $7000 in funds to re-tool and get the program back on track. The program will re-open soon (mid October??) but we are running into some major hiccups and a general lack of time...which is driving us CRAZY. If you'd like more details, you can read my latest letter to our donors here. I sincerely apologize for the delay, and I appreciate everyone's patience as we fumble through this process. 

Alrighty folks, that's all for now. I can't believe I'm actually getting these newsletters out on a weekly basis! Several customers have told me how much they like receiving them, and how much it "reminds" them to get to the market...(so that lit a fire under my ass, no doubt!). I'm confident I'll drop the ball next week however.

Before I sign-out, please note: Farmer Dan & I will be packing up early this Saturday (promptly at noon) so be sure to come before that. Can't wait to see everyone, rain or shine.
