Calling ALL Members

As we work together to drive local and national change around our collective impact areas, it is critical that we understand the relationship between issues and systemic and institutional inequality. The Junior League of Lake Charles is committed to making sustainable change through an equity-driven approach as we work to improve our community through our various outreach programs like FitKids, packing snack sacks, child-focused literacy events and more!

JLLC IN ACTION
We had an amazing kickoff KICS event at Westwood Elementary last week where over 180 deserving children received new shoes purchased by The Junior League of Lake Charles!
We found that many kids wear shoes that are too small, too big, or completely worn down. According to the nonprofit Shoes That Fit, being given a pair of new shoes improves school attendance by 44%, participation in physical activity by 72% and classroom behavior by 63%. Our KICS program allows kids to be healthy, comfortable, and participate in physical activity. We look forward to visiting more schools and gifting even more kids with the gift of self-confidence and some with their first ever pair of brand new shoes!
The 2023 Winter Leadership Retreat is complete! We really enjoyed our guest speaker Keri Forbes-McCorquodale! #wearejllc
JLLC visited Landmark of Lake Charles on Oak Park Blvd to help make the resident’s Mardi Gras special. Along with Washington Marion Band and LCCP’s band and dance line, our float ride with Queen Alise Citizen and King Bobby Johnson was a hit! We also served jambalaya and cake to the parade members and staff.
Thanks to all the ladies who took time out of their day to spend time with our elderly and disabled. What a great volunteer experience! #wearejllc

Community Outreach

That's My Bag

This program was initiated to design, create and distribute personal care packages for children recently removed from their homes or newly placed in foster care.

Did you know…?

  • The JLLC provides approximately 200 bags each year
  • The bags are distributed through local and regional offices of the Department of Children and Family Services

What’s in that bag?
Each duffel bag, which has a detachable backpack & overnight case, is stuffed with much-needed toiletries plus items (diapers, bottles, clothes, games, books, footballs, stuffed animals, etc.) that will help kids smile during a tough transition. The children remain nameless & faceless to the JLLC but hold a special place in our hearts.

Truly meaningful, impactful partnerships are few and far between, but the continued partnership between the JLLC and the Children’s Museum of SWLA is one of the greatest.
The future of the Children’s Museum is surely bright with the new additions to the museum’s board of directors!
Congratulations to Marcell Gray,
Tori Hebert,
Jessica Bowe,
Shelby Cutrera, &
