Read for the Record

2021 marked Jumpstart's 16th year of their Read for the Record program. Junior Leagues all over the nation, including the JLLC, have taken up the call to support this international literacy movement.

Read for the Record is a high-visibility annual fall campaign engaging over 2 million participants who aim to increase awareness about the critical importance and impact of early literacy, make high-quality children’s books accessible for all children, and provide support for Jumpstart for Young Children’s work with early learners in underserved communities across the country.

This year the JLLC introduced Read for the Record LIVE! During this event, the Mayor of Lake Charles read Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon to Lake Area families. Children were also invited create their own patchwork dragon.
