Spring is a Time for Renewal
Spring is a time of renewal, regrowth and regeneration for all living things. As educators, it can be a hectic and overwhelming time of year, dealing with this year’s deadlines while simultaneously planning for the next year, high-energy children and restless staff. It can be difficult to remember to take time to energize our own practice and water our roots.  Maria Montessori was very specific in talking about the importance of the prepared environment with a spiritually aware, calm adult in service to the unfolding potential of the child.  In order to be that prepared adult we must also tend our own gardens by reawakening our wonder, passion and excitement about ongoing learning opportunities.  We must push ourselves outside the comfort of our known environments to expand our personal horizons. To quote Montessori, “Growth comes from activity, not from intellectual understanding.”

“There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community."
