Sing Peace Around the World

On September 21, 2016, the United Nations is hosting its annual International Day of Peace. Montessori schools from all over the globe will be joining together for a special Sing Peace Around the World Celebration. The song Light a Candle for Peace will begin on the shores of New Zealand and continue to travel from country to country, and time zone to time zone until it reaches the Hawaiian Islands 24 hours later.  In Sing Peace 2009 we had over 65,000 children sing for peace as one of the largest UN ‘Day of Peace’ celebrations ever. We invite you to join us with fellow Montessori schools from across the earth from almost every country in the world. This event is completely free and only requires your students to sing one song at a designated time on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

CMA's Advocacy Report
The Colorado Montessori Association's advocacy committee is taking a scaffold approach to reach both short and long term goals. Some of the short term goals and focuses have been regarding issues such as QRIS, PDIS, group sizes, and waivers. 
During our research into QRIS and PDIS, we were able to get in touch with the co-directors of the Department of ECE.  Our email correspondence is posted below and also on our website in a question & answer format. The conversation includes information regarding the longevity of QRIS/PDIS, and the malleability of these programs.  In moving forward, it is hoped that the CMA advocacy committee can continue initiatives that build relationships with the Department of ECE so that the needs of Montessori schools and educators can be recognized and considered when changes are to be made to state programs.   The CMA advocacy committee is hoping there can be more alignment with credentials and coming up with professional development modules that are more applicable to Montessori educators.

Regarding PDIS and QRIS

-Can we create modules that are Montessori applicable for PDIS? 
 Through the CDE Training Approval system, modules can be created and added to the PDIS by outside professional development entities; modules can be added using any SCORM compliant authoring tool.  The Training Approval functionality within the PDIS will be available within the next year.

-Can AMS Webinars count as training for state requirements?
 For the purpose of the credential, any training (online or face to face) that can be used toward child care licensing annual clock hours can also be used to earn credential points.

The Early Childhood Professional Development Team is soliciting professional development information from a sample of important stakeholders (you!) across the state to ensure that the Early Childhood Professional Credential provides an accurate and valid representation of an individual's expertise in early childhood.

The Montessori Children’s House of Denver is looking for an ECT qualified primary after school coordinator and an elementary afternoon coordinator.  
The primary after school coordinator will be working with children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years.  
The elementary after school coordinator will be working with children ages 6 to 12 years.
  • This position requires the development and implementation of after school activities and programming that are developmentally appropriate for the age range of children that the After School Coordinator is working with in addition to classroom management, group supervision, and tending to the needs of the students in their care.
  • Duties may include preparing snacks and lunches, cleaning and organizing the classroom materials and general support of the learning environment. 
  • Ideal candidates will be caring, compassionate, enthusiastic about helping children learn, and willing to build and maintain positive working relationships with other staff and parents. 
This is a wonderful position for a Montessori intern to work closely with the lead teacher in the morning and lead the after school program in the afternoon.
