CMA AUGUST 2016 NEWSLETTER
Mission
The Colorado Montessori Association is a powerful voice for Montessori advocacy providing a forum for networking and professional growth in the Montessori community. It is a highly functioning, evolving professional organization, unified in its vision, respectful, purposeful and inclusive.
Importance of Being a Peace Center

In a time when headlines proclaim fear and separateness and political parties are at war, it is more important than ever that Montessorians proclaim even louder the other view, that we are all connected, an abundant community, and everyone matters.

As we design our classrooms for the upcoming year, let’s all remember to design in peace. Our children’s houses in all their forms are essentially peace centers. In the matter of fact practice of our daily rituals and practices, we reinforce these ideas with concrete, often simple actions.

Sing Peace Around the World

On September 21, 2016, the United Nations is hosting its annual International Day of Peace. Montessori schools from all over the globe will be joining together for a special Sing Peace Around the World Celebration. The song Light a Candle for Peace will begin on the shores of New Zealand and continue to travel from country to country, and time zone to time zone until it reaches the Hawaiian Islands 24 hours later.  In Sing Peace 2009 we had over 65,000 children sing for peace as one of the largest UN ‘Day of Peace’ celebrations ever. We invite you to join us with fellow Montessori schools from across the earth from almost every country in the world. This event is completely free and only requires your students to sing one song at a designated time on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.

U.N. International Day of Peace

Thank You RB

As we say goodbye to RB Fast from the CMA board, I am reminded of the many meetings we have had together.  RB has always been one of the quickest thinkers around the table, as well as someone who is always willing to take on a challenge.  She has been a powerful spokesperson for Montessori education both in Colorado and nationally, and we know she will continue that good work.  Thank you RB, for giving Colorado Montessori Association several years of your time and work!  --Kathryn Ross- CMA President
