Alice Renton Named AMS Living Legacy!


Alice Renton will be honored as the AMS 2017 Living Legacy at the AMS Annual Conference at the Town and Country Plaza in San Diego, March 9-12, 2017.

Many of you know Alice as an inspirational presenter of Montessori Philosophy, as a sensitive and supportive mentor to new teachers, and as a specialist resource for multicultural and bilingual education. Alice holds both AMS and AMI teaching credentials. We are delighted that she will receive this prestigious recognition. 

Time flies, so plan ahead of the 2018 AMS National Conference which will come to the Sheraton Denver Downtown from March 22-25, 2018. There will be presenter and volunteer opportunities, as well as invitations to showcase local schools on Thursday tours. Save the dates for your 2017-2018 school calendars! There were over 4,000 attendees and 100 exhibitors at the recent AMS Annual Conference in Chicago.

Dear Montessori Director's Network Group,

I am excited to come to the next Colorado Montessori Association Director's Meeting to discuss the new Child Care Center Licensing Rules and Regulations! Since the state provided presentation is long, dry and extensive, I would like to make the most of our time by hosting a Q&A session with you to address your most pressing questions and concerns. I would like to come prepared with factual answers and great resources for you. In order to do that, please send a list of your questions to me ahead of time at: mewing@acecc.org). I will address these questions and review some handy resources I have created for providers to help manage the new rules as well. I am looking forward to it! See you then!

About Us: 
Mountain Shadows Montessori seeks a Head of School to start July 1 or August 1, 2016.

For 40 years, Mountain Shadows Montessori School has devoted itself to educating its students and preparing them to serve the world through the principles and practices of the Association Montessori International (AMI). Mountain Shadows seeks a dynamic and passionate leader to serve as our Head of School, continuing our mission and building upon the tradition of Colorado's only AMI-affiliated school. 


We serve students ranging in age from 12 months to 12 years. The culture is warm and welcoming, and staff members enjoy a supportive work environment. Our talented teachers are AMI certified and experienced educators, a mix of newer (<5 year experience) and seasoned (5-25+ year experience) guides. 

The school is situated on 13 acres of bucolic farmland; the classrooms are located within an older farmhouse. The school has a multipurpose room fully equipped with sound system, lighting, and stage. The outdoor environment available to our classrooms is beautiful and spacious. 

Accrediting AMI consultation visits continue to affirm the high quality education Mountain Shadows offers. It is also a licensed childcare facility within the state of Colorado. 

Priorities:
Our next Head of School will build upon the traditions and strong reputation of Mountain Shadows. Mountain Shadows expects its next Head of School to focus on the following near-term priorities, with the ongoing support of the Board and Faculty:
  • Serving as educational leader. Sustaining the principles of AMI Montessori education from the toddler through 6th year elementary continuum, ensuring the retention of top-notch, AMI-trained faculty and supporting their development.
  • Serving as community leader. Ensuring that the Mountain Shadows brand flourishes, deepening the relationship with the school community and its constituents, serving as an ambassador for Mountain Shadows at all times.
  • Continuing enrollment growth. Attracting and retaining families and students well suited to Mountain Shadows, developing and implementing a robust marketing plan.
  • Strengthening Development Program. Increasing the school's development program to support long-term financial goals. 
Desired Characteristics and Qualifications:
Mountain Shadows seeks a Head of School to lead our school into a new era that continues our tradition of excellence, while also growing and strengthening our school. Desired qualities and qualifications include:
  • A passion for Montessori education and service to children
  • A collaborative, effective, confident, charismatic and proven leader and visionary
  • Administration/management experience preferred; prior administration or management experience in a Montessori school preferred
  • Deep understanding of Montessori principles and practices required; AMI training and teaching experience at primary and/or elementary levels preferred
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Flexible; capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • High degree of self-awareness and self-management
  • Steeped in moral purpose, moral clarity, moral conviction, and integrity

About Us: 
Glenwood Springs is an authentic, early childhood Montessori program operating in the Roaring Fork Valley since 2013. We started our program in a Historic Victorian Home in downtown Glenwood Springs, Colorado. We will be moving to our new location in West Glenwood for the 2016-2017 school year and are currently seeking qualified, enthusiastic, nurturing individuals to staff our small, quaint, yet growing program!

Primary (3-6) Directress - full or part time, certified (AMS/AMI) Directress for our new primary classroom. Hours for this position run from either 8am-4pm, or 8am-1pm, M-F.

Primary (3-6) Assistant - We have part time and full time assistant positions available for the 2016-2017 school year.

Position Description: 
  • The Assistant in a Primary Montessori classroom follows the lead of the Directress in the preparation, maintenance, and management of the classroom environment.
Assistant Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma and be at least 18 years of age.

  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid
  • Must have a clean background check

  • Successful candidates will have experience working with preschool aged children in a group setting.
  • Be creative, have great organizational and communication skills, be a team player, and most importantly, show respect for and have a strong desire to work with young children.
  • Prior Montessori experience or knowledge a plus.
  • Note: Please only apply if you have completed ECE 101, or at least one ECE class from an accredited college or university
Compensation:
Assistants will be paid an hourly rate dependent on verified experience and certifications.

Candidate Educational Requirements:
  • B.A. required.
  • Must be AMS or AMI Montessori credentialed for Upper Elementary.
Skills and Experience:
  • Significant lead teaching experience in an authentic Montessori environment
  • Familiarity with charter school accountability requirements
  • Understanding of standards-based curriculum alignment and progress monitoring systems that ensure achievement of outcomes

Position Requirements:
