Delta Groove Music nominated artists:
Jimi Bott - Instrumentalist / Drums (Mannish Boys)
Jimi Bott is the most nominated drummer since the conception of the BMA's. Jimi has recorded on more albums then any of the drummers nominated. He recorded and was the drummer for Gary Smith, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and has been the drummer for the award winning band "The Mannish Boys" for the past 5+ years.
Willie J. Campbell - Instrumentalist / Bass (Mannish Boys)
Willie J Campbell who is nominated for best bass player has had a fantastic career. Willie was with the James Harman band through most of their highly recognized albums. Willie J. played in The James Harman Band along side of Hollywood Fats and Kid Ramos, Willie also spent several years with The Fabulous Thunderbirds and has been the bass player for the Mannish Boys for the past 5+ years.
Sugaray Rayford - Traditional Blues Male Artist & B.B. King Entertainer of the Year
Sugaray Rayford who is nominated for BB King Entertainer of the year has done just that... Touring world wide with his own band as well as being the lead singer for the Mannish Boys keeps Sugaray busy and on the road at least 200+ dates a year. You haven't been entertained sufficiently until you have seen his live show. Sugar's powerful vocals are reminiscent of a young BB King or the soulful stylings of Little Milton and Al Green.
Sugaray Rayford is also nominated for Traditional Blues Singer of the year, no doubt due to his albums and live shows with The Mannish Boys.
The Mannish Boys are nominated in three categories. Album of the year "Wrapped Up and Ready" Traditional Blues Album of the year "Wrapped Up and Ready" and Band of the Year. These recording projects are some of their best work over the last 12 years and 7 albums. If you haven't been to a live Mannish Boys show you are doing yourself a disservice. Always presented as a "Mannish Boys Revue" you will be in for a treat reminiscent of Johnny Otis or Ike Turner. Last year among other performances the boys played the Mexican Rhythm and Blues Cruise. With guest artists Kid Ramos, Curtis Salgado, Steve Freund and Lloyd Jones.
