Fall Creative Labs

We are excited to be working with a new artist-in-residence for the Fall! Anne Sawyer is a local puppeteer, stilt-walker, playwright and arts educator, based in the Powderhorn Park area. She has worked for organizations such as In the Heart of the Beast, Artstart, Chicks on Sticks, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. She has written and illustrated two children’s books, Nalah and the Pink Tiger and Nalah Goes to Mad Mouse City. Some of her most recent puppet projects include making puppets for Gustavus Adolphus College’s production of Measure for Measure, and directing the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center’s Kalevala Puppet Pageant for the 9th year in a row.

The first series starts October 1 so don't delay! Check out the full line-up and register here:

 Color Me Courageous: Editions 1 & 2

Our first annual coloring book featuring Twin Cities landmarks drawn by our youth artists is the perfect gift for the upcoming holiday season! You can purchase online to be shipped anywhere in the world - or stop by the studio to pick up your copy. Your purchase will support our Creative Community Apprenticeship program.

If you don't want your own copy, you can double your impact instead by donating $20 to heARTS. We'll then pay it forward by donating a copy  of Color Me Courageous to one of three nonprofits doing good for Twin Cities families: Ronald McDonald House, Cornerstone, and Perspectives Inc.

Volume 2 Call For Youth Artists: Workshops for the next edition of Color Me Courageous are coming up soon. Youth who are interested in participating are required to attend one of two workshops that will be held Saturday, Oct 5 or Sunday, Oct. 13 from 1-4pm. Workshops are free to attend but limited to 12 participants. Spaces are filling fast so click the linked dates above to register!

AWESOME ALERT: 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast!

 Volunteer opportunities!

We are on the hunt for a few volunteers this fall who can help out with the following opportunities:

  • Creative Lab Assistants: Help our artist-in-residence with prep, facilitation and clean-up during our fall session. Assistants will be asked to sign-up to help with at least 3 Creative Labs per season, must be able to attend all sessions in a series, and be present 30 minutes before and after the session to help out.
  • Pancake Breakfast Support: We are looking for some helping hands who are available the evening of Nov. 1 to re-arrange the studio into a dining hall and prep food, and on Nov. 2 between 8a-1:30p to help with various event tasks.
Additional volunteer opportunities are listed on our website. If you have volunteered with us in the past, please email Lindsay with your interest. If this is your first time volunteering, please complete the interest form on our website and we will be in touch with details.
