Fall Artist Residency

Artists-In-Residence infuse our studio with their own creative stylings and influence by facilitating formal Creative Labs and providing informal creative mentorship during Open Studio hours. This position supports the overall culture of Courageous heARTS by creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that ensures our studio remains a positive, accepting and brave space for personal exploration and creative risk-taking.

Job Description

Position Type: Independent Contractor

Availability Requirements: 
Artists must have flexible availability to teach and spend time in the studio from October - December. Creative Labs will be scheduled in collaboration with the selected artist based on availability and preferred class structure. Artists are expected to provide 40 hours of instruction time, which may include a combination of one-time workshops or multi-week series.

Responsibilities:

  • develop content for youth-specific or intergenerational Creative Labs in collaboration with organization leadership, totally 40 hours of instruction time
  • coordinate Creative Lab scheduling, promotions, and material needs with Executive Director
  • serve as an informal creative mentor during Open Studio hours throughout the residency period
  • clean/reorganize the studio after Creative Labs
  • serve as a champion for Courageous heARTS in the community
Qualifications:
  • experience working with youth and other diverse groups of people, honoring their unique perspectives and abilities
  • view teaching and learning as a collaborative process by encouraging participants to bring forward their own ideas, knowledge, experience and creativity
  • experience teaching art at an introductory level
  • knowledge of and experience in workshop/session planning
  • strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • knowledgeable about various art mediums, materials, and creative styles
  • desire to be an active member of an awesome nonprofit dedicated to creative exploration, personal expression and community connection
  • desire and willingness to grow as a teaching artist and community builder
  • ability to pass a background check
  • bilingual in Spanish or Somali a plus
Compensation: Base pay of $1000 + 10% commission on  registration fees, additional benefits noted on our website
