Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

Tuesday, May 7 is Teacher Appreciation Day! The staff at Wealthy Elementary are the hardest working, most dedicated, and passionate educators I know. I am thankful to have such a strong team of individuals working with our students each and every day. Please take a moment this week to celebrate your child(ren)’s teacher(s) for all that they do!

PTO Wizard Walk & Family Fun Night
This Thursday is our 10th annual Wizard Walk! Student sponsorship packets may still be turned in through this Thursday. Please stop by the office if you’re in need of a replacement packet. Donations are also accepted online via SchoolPay or in a standard envelope turned into the office. Annually, the PTO sponsored Wizard Walk supports numerous opportunities and classroom enhancements for students including Shrek, Jr. the musical, the John Ball Traveling Zoo, Field Day, 5th grade Mystic Lake science camp, and more. Thank you to everyone who has supported this event through the donation of time, talent, and monetary gifts. The funds raised help to provide a rich learning experience for students during their elementary years.

Each year we hope the weather cooperates and provides us sunshine and dry conditions for the Wizard Walk and Family Fun Night.  If not, the Wizard Walk will proceed even in the event of light rain or drizzle; potentially with a shortened route. Unfortunately, umbrellas become a safety concern on crowded sidewalks and cannot be allowed.  Please plan accordingly if the forecast continues to suggest rain as it does currently. Should thunderstorms or other weather concerns become a factor, we will communicate via an email to all families our plans for both the Wizard Walk and Family Fun Night. The safety of students and families will always remain our top priority in making these last minute decisions. In addition to these precautions, we ask parents to refrain from walking with students due to crowding on the sidewalks. Thank you for your support.

Family Fun Night will also continue in rain or shine, but may be moved indoors. I look forward to seeing everyone at this wonderful school community event on Thursday!

2019-2020 School Supplies
In next week’s newsletter we will be providing information on school supplies including different purchasing options.  While purchasing school supplies is voluntary and not required for your child to attend school, our teachers have developed supply lists if you decide to purchase some.  As always, we encourage the East Grand Rapids community to purchase their supplies from local vendors and stores that are homegrown in Michigan.

Warm Regards,

Carlye Allen
Wealthy Elementary Principal
