Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

I would like to offer a sincere ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers and staff who helped create a fantastic Field Day last Friday. The day requires many people donating their time and energy to ensure its success. The students had a wonderful time; especially when we gathered together at the end for our annual Fifth Grade Tug-o-War. Congratulations to Mrs. Sawade’s class for winning this test of strength! Field Day was a wonderful way to celebrate the year together.

Kevin Box Artist Visit
Last Thursday our Fifth Graders had the opportunity to meet sculptor Kevin Box. He did a wonderful job speaking to the students about how he desires to create art that represents thoughts and feelings. He is fascinated with the concept of origami, or paper folding, but wanted to create something longer lasting and more sustainable. This began his exploration of metal casting. Mrs. den Dulk has been sharing much of his work with students the past few weeks and his time with the Fifth Graders ended with the unveiling of his sculpture, Stone Paper Scissors, which has been installed in the courtyard near the office. The piece was specifically chosen because it is representative of the problem solving strategy students were taught at the beginning of this school year. Students have been using the game Rock, Paper, Scissors, to solve disagreements on the playground and in the classroom. I am thankful to Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park for the long-term loan of this sculpture. Please stop by to view it next time you’re at the building.

Drop Off & Pick Up Safety Reminders
We know that the morning and afternoon times are busy in our parking lots as many people are coming and going. Please remember to abide by our rules and procedures to ensure safety for all students. For those drivers using Parking Lots A or C, please only drop students off at the curb and carefully check blind-spots as you move through the “kiss and go” lanes along the curb. Please park only in designated parking spaces. Do not double park as this creates a safety hazard and further congestion of traffic. Full directions and options for drop off and pick up may be found here. Thank you for your support in maintaining the safety of our students.

Warm Regards,
