Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,
I hope the holiday break was restful and rewarding for your family.  Many thanks to everyone who donated to the Families-in-Need drive in lieu of teacher holiday gifts.  Nearly $6300 in assistance was distributed this year directly to East Grand Rapids Middle School families experiencing job loss, health matters, and other serious issues impacting their family.  While each situation is unique, please trust these resources met important and vital needs for the families being supported.  I am deeply grateful to Mrs. Healey and Mrs. Graham for their leadership in this effort and to all who made this support possible.  Since 2003 when the request to forego teacher holiday gifts was initiated, a total of $76,325.69 has been donated through the Families-in-Need program.

Important Parent Education Opportunity
As parents, we know it takes a lot of work to stay on top of current trends our kids face.  This is especially true in regards to the risks our youth face today regarding drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and other substances.  I would highly encourage parents to consider attending an informative presentation by Officer Jermaine Galloway, aka “Tall Cop,” next Monday, January 14th starting at 7:00 p.m. at the High School Performing Arts Center.  Officer Galloway is a nationally known presenter on these topics and he brings direct knowledge and expertise I think most parents will find helpful in navigating these issues in 2019.  The best time to learn about such matters, and to take preventative action, is when your child is younger, before they face these issues directly as a young adult.  Officer Galloway's program is designed for adults and would not be appropriate for middle school students.  Review the full Tall Cop flyer here

Please join us for our next meeting on Thursday, January 17, at 8:30 am, in the Learning Commons.

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office.  Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

We will be drawing our first winners of 2019, this Friday, January 11.

We met our match! Only $1 million to go!

Over the holiday break, donors to the EGR Schools Foundation’s Now&Forever campaign surpassed the $110,000 end-of-year matching grant provided by a generous group of donors.

As we enter the final phase of the campaign, our goal is now in reach, thanks to you!

Since starting Now&Forever, members of our community have pledged more than $5.3 million toward our goal of $6.4 million in three-year cash pledges. With the last $2 million coming in the form of planned giving, these latest donations mean we are only one million from our target amount. Thanks to you, and everyone in our community, we’ll get there!

Now&Forever is a brilliant new way you can help our students, our schools and our community. By building the Foundation’s endowment from $4 million to $12 million, Now&Forever will allow investment income from the endowment to fund the enhancements and program support our schools rely on us to provide. It replaces EGRNOW! with a sustainable solution so whatever challenges the coming years present, we will be able to meet them, Now&Forever.

If you haven’t pledged yet, join those who have by making a pledge to this historic effort. To make your pledge to Now&Forever, visit the donation page on
