Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,
Last week the students and staff recognized Administrative Professionals’ Day by celebrating Mrs. Allchin and Mrs. Carnevale! These two fantastic women take excellent care of our students and are valuable members of our TEAM. If you see either of them this week, please thank them for all that they do!
Next week is our annual PTO sponsored Wizard Walk and Family Fun Night! Thank you to all the sponsors who are so generously supporting our school. Your donations make many favorite events and activities possible including the school musical, Fifth Grade Science Camp at Mystic Lake, the Kindergarten Art Gala, and numerous classroom grants. We look forward to honoring you next week as we walk.
Below is a picture of the altered route for this year. Due to construction near the hospital, we will be taking a slightly different path through the community. For safety reasons, I ask that parents refrain from walking with students as the sidewalks become too crowded. I encourage you to cheer us on at the start of the walk by waiting outside the K-2 playground doors. The walk begins promptly at 1:30 PM next Thursday.
This week Wednesday through Friday, students will have an opportunity to purchase Wizard Ride tickets. The Student Leadership Team will be selling raffle tickets during lunch for fifty cents each. Before the Wizard Walk, I will pull five tickets and announce the winners who will get the opportunity to ride in the golf cart with Mr. Morris at the front of our walk.
Harry Potter Read Aloud
This week Mrs. Gohel is finishing the reading of, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” with interested students in grades 3-5. Students who have been attending the readings will have an opportunity to watch the film during their lunch recess. I am grateful to Mrs. Gohel for filling in this year while Miss Monica takes on her expanded role at KDL. Hearing a great book read aloud is one of life’s simplest pleasures!
Class placement forms are due this coming Friday, May 3, 2019. I will meet with staff in May to begin student placements for the 2019-2020 school year. To guide us in this important process, we will follow the East Grand Rapids Board of Education Policy #8040:
To the extent possible, students are assigned to specific classes, grade levels and teachers by the building Principal. In making assignments, Principals may consider (with input from teachers and parent(s)/guardian(s) the following factors: (i) individual student needs; (ii) learning styles of students; (iii) teaching styles; (iv) gender ratio; (v) heterogeneous make-up of the class; (vi) class size; and (vii) special education needs.
Your input in this process is valuable. If you wish to contribute information about your child, please use the Student Placement Information Form that is attached here. Please do not request a specific teacher as many factors go into the placement decision and we have yearly changes in teaching assignments.
Please print and return this information to the office no later than this Friday, May 3, 2019. Please note that all information received will remain strictly confidential. I look forward to your input.
Field Day is rapidly approaching and we are in need of about 20 more volunteers! It will be held on Friday, May 17 (Rain Date of Friday, May 24). To join us by volunteering, please click here. This day is always a staff and student favorite as we celebrate together with team games.
