Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

While it may not yet feel like it, today is the first day of Spring! Please continue sending students with winter gear and boots as the playground becomes quite muddy this time of year. At times, portions of the playground may have cones on it to mark muddy areas and puddles which students are instructed to avoid. Sending an extra set of clothes to school is always helpful and appreciated.

We continue to enjoy celebrating Reading Month with a variety of activities including participating in March Book Madness and spirit days chosen by our Student Leadership Team. Our last Spirit Day for the month is this Friday, March 24 and is Reading Gives You a Bright Future (dress in bright colors).

Wealthy Elementary Playground Information
As many of you know, the passing of the November 2022 parks millage results in the exciting news that the three elementary school playgrounds in East Grand Rapids will be completely renovated in 2023. Since the vote, tremendous amounts of collaborative planning has taken place between the school district, the city of East Grand Rapids, and the EGR Parks and Recreation Department. The result of these efforts is a beautiful new playground project that will break ground very soon.  Please see this communication from Dr. Kattula regarding the Playground Improvements and view the Wealthy Elementary Equipment and Site Plan. Construction at Wealthy Elementary is intended to begin at the start of summer break and more specific information will be send to families on Thursday, June 1.

Directory Information Reminder
As a friendly reminder, the Wealthy Elementary Directory is solely to foster communication and connections amongst families in our school community and is not to be used for other reasons. This information shall not be disclosed to businesses or organizations that plan to use the information for commercial purposes. For more information on Board of Education Policy related to the Directory, please reference policy #8940.

State Assessments
The M-STEP state assessment for third through fifth grade students begins after Spring Break based on windows of time determined by the state. Our M-STEP testing schedule is found below. Please try to schedule appointments around these dates and times to prevent your child(ren) from missing class time to complete make-up test sessions.

Fence Closing
In order to support a student safety need, the stairwell on the lower elementary playground to Lake Drive will be temporarily closed. Thank you for your patience and support.
