Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,
The weather is continuing to get colder although there is not much snow in sight. Regardless, when we returned from the holiday break last week, teachers spent time reviewing our winter recess expectations with students. You may view the presentation here. Similar to our fall presentation, this “booster” has been helpful the past few years in explicitly teaching students how to be TEAM leaders on the playground. Please remember to send your child to school dressed for winter weather and outdoor recess each day. Printing your child’s name on all winter gear is helpful to us as we return misplaced items. Parents are welcome to sign in at the office and check our Lost and Found at any time.
MLK Day Activities
As I shared last week, this coming Friday students will participate in our MLK Day activities celebrating the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year’s theme is, “Begin With…” and will focus on ways each of us can begin to connect with one another whether it is by beginning with kindness, respect, a smile, etc. We have an assembly planned for 8:30 AM where our students will learn more about Dr. King’s life. While the assembly is programmed primarily for our students, parents are welcome to attend. Simply sign in through the main office and be seated at the back of the auditorium or in the balcony. It is important that all students are seated, first. As always, park in designated spots only so that patrons of the pool or those with a handicap are able to access the building safely.
Following the assembly, around 9:30 AM, students will embark on our annual silent march. We are looking for a few parent volunteers to support us at the corners during our walk. The sign up and route may be found here. I appreciate your assistance as we work to ensure student safety during the march.
In the afternoon, students in grades 2-5 will participate in Dream Keeper groups to extend their learning. Kindergarten and first grade students will complete a developmentally appropriate version of the same lesson this week. I would like to thank the Cultural Ambassadors Committee for planning these events and others throughout the year to celebrate diversity and cultural awareness: Mrs. Tinholt, Mrs. denDulk, Mrs. McKee, Mrs. Day, Mrs. Miller, and Senorita Chavez. Please also note that there is no school next Monday, January 21, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Family Movie Night
Next Friday is our annual PTO Family Movie Night. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket and join us at 6:30 PM in comfy pajamas! Our Student Leadership Team and PTO will be selling popcorn, water, and candy to snack on during the movie. On election day in November, students voted to see Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, rated PG. To learn more about the movie rating and content, please click here to view the description on Common Sense Media. This is a wonderful community event for our whole school. I hope to see many of you there!
