Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

This Thursday is the last day of the 2018-2019 school year.  As a reminder, students will be dismissed at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week due to exams.  Parents are encouraged to review expectations for these afternoons with their students to ensure a common understanding of where students should proceed upon dismissal.

On a personal note, I want to thank everyone for their support in the many important initiatives we have undertaken as a school community this school year.  This year has been immensely rewarding to me and I consider it a great privilege to work with your children and the excellent middle school faculty on a daily basis.

I hope this summer is restful and rewarding to your family.

Incredible! We’re almost there!

Over the last two years, Now&Forever has raised more than $6 million to create a sustainable source of funding for our schools. That includes more than $200,000 in pledges last week alone!

If you're one of the more than 800 families, including more than 130 EGRPS staff members, who have contributed to the campaign, I thank you. More important, our students and our schools thank you as well.

If you haven't yet made a pledge to this historic effort, there's still time. We still need to raise $380,000 in the community portion of the campaign. With your help, we'll get there. To make your pledge, visit the Now&Forever donation page on the Foundation’s website.

Thank you, as always, for your support!

Amy Stuursma, Executive Director
East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office.  Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

We will hold our next drawing in the fall, work hard over the summer to make demonstrating Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best a daily habit.

The Hearts of Gold committee is excited to announce the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan as our 2019 partner! The Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan leads the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. Awareness activities and fundraising will kick off in September. The Hearts of Gold events will culminate on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the East Grand Rapids High School home varsity football game against Grand Rapids Christian. Hearts of Gold is an annual EGR community-wide effort to raise funds and awareness for a non-profit organization, focusing on the physical and mental health of children while teaching our kids about philanthropy. Since 2009, Hearts of Gold has raised $663,000 for non-profit organizations throughout the state. 2019 will be extra special as it marks our tenth anniversary!
