Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

As the 2018-2019 school year draws to a close, please review the information below that will help parents and students prepare for the final week of school.

Final Exams
Final exams are developed by curricular departments and administered in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in English, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Spanish.  Teachers will provide students an exam review guide describing the general scope and content of the exam.  Final exams grades will appear as a separate grade on the Skyward Family Access Report Card in the FNE column.

Final Course Grades and Final Exam Weights
All departments will utilize a consistent weight when calculating the value of the final exam as part of the overall course grade (yearlong grade).  The different weights at each grade below take into consideration the age and developmental readiness of students for the final exam preparation process and experience.  Final grades are calculated as follows:

Trimester 1 Weight Trimester 2 Weight Trimester 3 Weight   Final Exam Weight   Overall Yearlong Grade
6th Grade 32% 32% 32% 4% 100%
7th Grade 31% 31% 31% 7% 100%
8th Grade 30% 30% 30% 10% 100%

In select courses where high school credit may be earned, the Overall Yearlong Grade is used to determine whether credit for the course is granted.

Q. “I’ve heard a lot about Now&Forever and I want to contribute. How much should I donate?”

 A.  That’s a great question, and it’s come up a lot. The short answer is that any amount is important and appreciated. The long answer is a bit more complicated. We’re asking for a three-year pledge to Now&Forever. When we used to do a spring EGRNOW! campaign, we had a suggested donation of $300 per student.

But Now&Forever is different from EGRNOW!. It’s a permanent, sustainable solution so we won’t have to scramble to raise EGRNOW! funds every spring. This is our chance to build our endowment over three years to secure the future of our schools for generations to come.

That’s why we’re asking people to be a bit more aggressive in choosing how much to donate. This is bold. This is big. This is a historic effort that will help our students and our schools now and forever. Think about what that is worth to you, and to our community, and let that guide your donation. Make your pledge to Now&Forever today!

The EGRMS Drama Club presents the hilarious, all-too-real comedy, All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play by Werner Trieschmann. Select students have also chosen to perform the various monologues they have been studying. Performances are next week, Thursday, May 16th and Friday, May 17th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door.  Come support our budding young actors!

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office.  Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

This week's winners are:

Izzy Metcalf
Abigail Samra
Graham Carlson

East Grand Rapids Athletics ~ Sports Physicals
The Athletic Department will be hosting sports physical examinations on Thursday, May 30 at the high school.  We would encourage all student athletes to attend.  The MHSAA and EGRHS require that any student participating on any sports team (club or school sponsored) must have a physical on file dated after April 14, 2019 to be eligible.  There are no exceptions to this MHSAA regulation.  The cost of the physical is $25.00.

KCTC Summer Camp
KCTC offers a summer camp program for grades 7, 8, and 9.  The program is a career-themed camp were students can explore various programs available at KCTC.  It's hands-on fun with the technology and equipment the professionals use in their trades.  Some of the most popular camps include Young Chefs, Criminal Justice, and the STEM Program.
