Dear Lakeside Elementary Families,

It is officially musical week! We look forward to seeing the hard work of the more than 150 students involved in the production of Moana Jr. come to life during the performances scheduled throughout the next six days. Please see the information linked in a separate section below to purchase tickets so you don’t miss out on seeing this amazing show!

  • Wed, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Auditorium- Parent Performance (parents-only)

  • Fri, March 18- Dress rehearsal for student body (staff and students only), weather permitting

  • Fri, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Pioneer Auditorium- Performance #1

  • Sat, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Auditorium- Performance #2 (final performance)

March is Reading Month Continues
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the month of March! Students and staff are enjoying celebrating Reading Month with a variety of activities including participating in March Book Madness

Thank you to the PTO for providing us the opportunity to enjoy these picture books so that students can vote on their favorite titles. Last week the student votes narrowed it down to their top eight from the list of 16 and this week their votes will determine our final four. I look forward to seeing which books our students choose as their favorites! The final two Spirit Days are listed below.

  • Friday, March 18- Camp Out with a Good Book (bring a flashlight and wear pjs)

  • Friday, March 25- Dress as a Book Character Day 

NOTE:  On Friday, March 18 students are invited to wear pajamas to school for Spirit Day. Please keep in mind that we will be walking to Wealthy Elementary that day to see the musical, so pajamas should be appropriate to be worn for walking outdoors for approximately 20 minutes. The weather forecast is projecting mid-40s for the temperature on Friday. 


Spring Conferences
Thank you to the many who attended Parent/Teacher conferences last Thursday evening. Our final night of conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 15.  If you have any questions on the time of your conferences, please contact Mrs. Buzalski at 616.235.7553 or mbuzalsk@egrps.org with questions.  
 

 M-STEP for Grades 3-5
The M-STEP state assessment for third through fifth grade students begins after Spring Break based on windows of time determined by the state. Our M-STEP testing schedule is listed below. Please try to schedule appointments around these dates and times to prevent your child(ren) from missing class time to complete make-up test sessions.  


                      
 

General Safety Reminders
Below are some reminders for families. 

  • Pets are not allowed on school property during the school day including at drop-off or pick-up. Some of our students may be afraid or have allergies to pet dander. When visiting the playground outside of school hours, please be mindful of picking up after your pet. This helps our playground to stay clean for students during recess times. 

  • Please utilize designated drop off areas at the Breton/Hall parking lot, Burchard parking lot, and in parking spots along Hall Street. Dropping students off in the middle of the road is not permitted to ensure the safety of our students.

  • Only those children arriving after 8:20 a.m. in the morning should enter through the main office and be signed in by a parent or guardian. If your child arrives before 8:20 a.m., he/she will be directed to walk around to their assigned door.

  • March 14:  Board of Education Meeting at EGRMS at 6:00 p.m.

  • March 15:  Spring Conferences from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

  • March 18:  Camp Out with a Good Book (Bring a Flashlight and Wear PJs)

Open positions for 2022-23 Lakeside PTO Board
As we head into Spring, it's time to start thinking about the next school year. There will be several positions coming open in the PTO. Joining the PTO is a great way to get to know your Lakeside community! Nomination Deadline is March 18th!

Open positions are:
Vice-President (Can be an individual or shared position)
2nd. Vice-President,  Treasurer,  and Recording Secretary

Nominate a Teacher for Excellence in Teaching and Nicholas Awards

It might not look like it outside, but it’s time to think about spring. That means it’s also time to nominate an outstanding teacher for one of our annual awards!

The East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation’s Excellence in Teaching Award and the James and Georgia Nicholas Endowed for a Teacher of Math, Science, or Technology Award recognize and encourage superior professional effort to improve instruction and to cultivate the continuance of educational excellence in the East Grand Rapids Public Schools. 

Students, parents, alumni, community members and employees of the East Grand Rapids Public Schools can nominate a teacher. Any teacher with 3 years of experience in the district may be nominated for these awards. The deadline for nomination submission is April 30.

2022-2023 Preschool & Child Care

Running Club is just around the corner!

As the snow melts and the temperatures warm, it’s time to think about Lakeside’s Running/Walking Club! This is a great opportunity for students to participate in a club that happens right here at school during recess! We need your help to make this happen!    Yule Ball - Mischief Managed

While the 9th annual Interscholastic Yule Ball was a continued evolution, lots of witches and wizards joined in and had a blast! Overall this year, we had 68 students and 9 local businesses participate in the new Scavenger Hunt, 12 EGRPS staff contributing content, 3 live online events with close to 50 Zoom logins, and countless hits on the asynchronous classes, activities, crafts, and other online content  . . . .Read more

Free Lunch Information:
Currently, every EGRPS family can access a free lunch at school. All orders must be submitted using this 
online form by 7:00 am. You may order at the frequency that meets the needs of your family.  Milk is included with each lunch order. Please note that "milk only" orders will be assessed a $0.50 charge per milk ordered. 

Note: Due to staffing shortages, GRPS will no longer be providing the "muncher" option as a lunch choice!
