Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

I hope you enjoyed the extended time home with your families during the Thanksgiving Break! As we begin the final three weeks of the first semester, we have many events planned for our school community including our annual service learning project for Kids’ Food Basket, Fourth Grade Flea Market, Winter Showcase, and classroom celebrations. We hope to have many of you join us as we wrap-up our first semester of learning this school year!

Friendly Reminder- Community High School Open House tonight at 6:00 p.m.
We invite our full community to visit and explore our high school at the upcoming Community High School Open House tonight at 6:00 p.m. For details, please see this communication that went to all EGRPS families.  Elementary students are encouraged to attend to complete the scavenger hunt looking for the wizards!  The scavenger hunt instructions will be available at the high school and can also be found here

Kids’ Food Basket Collection Begins Today
At Wealthy Elementary, we learn about Making a Difference for others all year long. One way we Make a Difference for others in our community is through our annual Kids’ Food Basket collection drive led by the Student Leadership Team. You can learn more about Kids’ Food Basket by clicking here

Our building has become a major donor for KFB over the past few years and the experience of assembling Sack Suppers, decorating paper bags, and loading the KFB van with our completed bundles is truly meaningful for students. Thank you to the Student Leadership Team, led by Mrs. Eggert and Mrs. Griffith, for coordinating this service learning experience!

Below is a list of the items to consider donating for this year’s collection. Please refer to the note from your classroom teacher for more information. We’d love every child to participate by either donating, if able, or decorating a paper bag for the Sack Suppers. Items may be sent in with your student to the classroom teacher anytime from today through Thursday, December 8. Once all items are received, students will assemble the Sack Suppers for pick-up by KFB the following day. Thank you for Making a Difference!

       Sack Supper Packs

  • Pretzel or Cheez-It Bag (1.5 oz or smaller)
  • Pudding Cups (shelf stable)
  • 0.28 or 0.5 oz meat sticks
  • Fruit Pouch or Cup (no foil tops)
  • Quart Sized Ziploc Bags

Dogs and Clean-Up on School Property
For the safety of our students and families, we do not allow pets on school property during school hours as well as during arrival and dismissal times. We all love our pets, but they are not always welcomed by all individuals as some students are allergic or fearful of them. Thank you for leaving pets at home when you drop-off and pick-up your student(s).

If you and your pet do choose to utilize the Wealthy Elementary grounds outside of school hours, please follow Section 1 Chapter 92 of the Code of the City of East Grand Rapids by making sure that your pet is leashed and waste is disposed of properly in trash cans located around the property. We appreciate you helping to keep our playground clean for student use before and after school and at recess.

Harry Potter Yule Ball is Back!
On Saturday, February 25 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. East Grand Rapids will be hosting a Yule Ball for all Harry Potter enthusiasts in grades 3-8. We are looking for one Wealthy Elementary parent/guardian who may be interested in being the lead volunteer for our building. This lead volunteer would serve on a committee with the other building’s lead volunteers Please reach out to me at callen@egrps.org if you are interested.

Winter Showcase
This year Wealthy Elementary will host a Winter Showcase on Friday, December 9 at 1:00 p.m. in Pioneer Auditorium. This event is a musical performance for students, teachers, and families, and will include a slideshow of photos demonstrating work in Specials courses (Art, Music, Physical Education, and Spanish) throughout the first semester. East Grand Rapids Public Schools - Feedback Requested

East Grand Rapids Public Schools (EGRPS) requests community feedback as part of an ongoing facility study at East Grand Rapids High School.  This communication, and a number of embedded links to background documents, provides a broad overview of the study. Throughout this process, the District has sought feedback from multiple stakeholders, including students, staff, administration, and alumni; now, we wish to engage the larger East community. Community feedback is requested to assess current needs of the high school and potential areas of improvement.

Please consider sharing your feedback through the following:

  • Please provide your feedback: EGRHS facilities survey. (Survey closes at 10:00 p.m. tonight)

  • We invite our full community to visit and explore our high school at the Community Open House tonight at 6:00 p.m. For details, please see this communication that went to all EGRPS families.

After five glorious days at home with your kids, it’s possible you may have a new appreciation for your children’s teachers. Why not reward them with a STAR Award?

STAR (Staff Teacher Appreciation and Recognition) Awards honor outstanding teachers and staff members for everything they do for our students. For a donation of $25 or more to the Foundation, we’ll produce a STAR Award for your favorite teacher or staff member and either present it to them or give it to you to present it yourself. To honor a teacher or staff member quickly and easily, just visit the STAR Awards page on egrsf.org.
