Note from Dr. Cannon

May 13, 2019

Dear Breton Downs Families,

As we start planning for the 2019-2020 school year, I want to share information with you regarding school supplies for the 2019-2020 school year. First, purchasing school supplies is voluntary and not required for your child to attend school.  Below is a link to the suggested list of supplies from teachers that students will use throughout the school year. In addition, some of these school supplies may be used as “community” supplies and shared with the entire class and some may be used by just your child.  Each grade level uses a combination of community supplies and individual supplies.

If your family wishes to purchase school supplies, listed below are some different purchasing options you might consider. As always, we encourage the East Grand Rapids community to purchase their supplies from local vendors and stores that are homegrown in Michigan.

Some options for purchasing school supplies:

  • Online shopping (May 13-June 7) with delivery to school - Information found here.

  • Online shopping with delivery to your home or pick-up in store -  Please use this suggested school supply list when purchasing online at local retail stores.

  • Purchase in stores with this suggested school supply list.

Thank you for your continued support of both the school district and our local businesses. If you have any questions regarding school supplies, please contact Lisa Rogers in the main office at 235-7552 or

Here are some of the events happening in the months of May and June:

  • Thursday, May 23- Haiti Day in the afternoon

  • Monday, May 27- Memorial Day, No School

Kenward's Korner

I often have parents ask me for assistance for a child who lies.  For some of them, the lying has just started or for others it's something they have been dealing with for a long time.  Either way, it can be equally challenging and frustrating.  Check out this information from for some of the latest insight and strategies for dealing with this tricky behavior.

Until next time,

Parent Meeting Announcement for First Lego League!

Q. “I’ve heard a lot about Now&Forever and I want to contribute. How much should I donate?”

  1. That’s a great question, and it’s come up a lot. The short answer is that any amount is important and appreciated. The long answer is a bit more complicated. We’re asking for a three-year pledge to Now&Forever. When we used to do a spring EGRNOW! campaign, we had a suggested donation of $300 per student.
