Note from Dr. Cannon

Dear Breton Downs Families,
Last week our Breton Downs Bulldogs celebrated Homecoming by participating in various activities including Spirit Week and the Homecoming Parade. Our students dressed in pajamas, wacky wear and hair, what they want to be when they grow up, East Pride, and even dressed as a teacher! Thank you to Mrs. Radecki and Ms. Jenkins for leading the Safeties in the parade Friday evening. Please see the adorable pictures below of some of our students who participated in the parade. What a fun week it was celebrating together- Go East!

Breton Downs Harry Potter Cub
Calling all Witches and Wizards in grades 3-5! Your favorite Hogwarts Professors were given special permission by the Ministry of Magic to continue our club and read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Our first reading will be on Friday, October 14. All students in grades 3-5 may participate in the Harry Potter readings from 11:40 a.m.- 12:05 p.m. in the learning commons. Our 3rd and 4th grade students should bring a sack lunch on reading days. Our 5th grade students will miss their lunch recess.
Hearts of Gold
Last week information came home regarding this year’s Hearts of Gold recipient, the Children’s Healing Center. This organization is the first year-round recreation facility providing social and emotional healing for children with weakened immune systems and their families in a safe, clean environment. We hope you’ll join us at this week’s PTO meeting on Thursday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m. to learn more about the organization.
Our students have the opportunity to Make a Difference for those served at the CHC by raising funds via collecting cans, hot cocoa stands, doing household chores, etc. We look forward to presenting the organization with funds raised by the district at next week’s Hearts of Gold football game. Shirts will be on sale after school on various days throughout this week and next. Please check the Breton Downs calendar here for exact dates and times. We look forward to seeing our students wearing the color gold on Friday, October 21 and celebrating the week at our Family Picnic on October 21.
There will be two spirit days during Hearts of Gold week:
- Tuesday, October 18- Wear a hat to school for a $1.00 donation
- Thursday, October 20- Wear pajamas to school for a $1.00 donation
Family Picnic - Friday, October 21 from 11:15- 12:05
There will be a Breton Downs Family Picnic on Friday, October 21 from 11:15 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. Families are invited to join their children and enjoy a picnic lunch from Grand Rapids Food Service. Students and families will be served lunch in the gym and if your child would prefer a lunch from home, please plan on packing one for him/her. Available Supports for Families

It is important that all children have access to the various opportunities offered at school including field trips, evening PTO-sponsored events, book fairs, etc. As a staff, we never want money to be a barrier to participation for a child. If your family is experiencing monetary challenges, please reach out to the classroom teacher or building principal. All information is confidential and we have options to support you and your child(ren).

You should have received a copy of our fall newsletter in your Friday folder or mailbox last week. It’s also available online on our website here.
We’re always in need of photos of East students to use in our printed and digital communications. Do you have any favorite pictures from last week’s Homecoming festivities to share with us? Or photos of kids involved in one of the hundreds of programs and classroom enhancements our donors have funded? Please share them with us! You can email them to our Communications Director, Jay Forstner, at jforstne@egrps.org. Thank you!
