Dear Breton Downs Families,

Last week our Breton Downs Bulldogs celebrated Homecoming by participating in various activities including Spirit Week and the Homecoming Parade. Our students dressed in pajamas, wacky wear and hair, what they want to be when they grow up, East Pride, and even dressed as a teacher! Thank you to Mrs. Radecki and Ms. Jenkins for leading the Safeties in the parade Friday evening.  Please see the adorable pictures below of some of our students who participated in the parade. What a fun week it was celebrating together- Go East!

All students in grades 3-5 may participate in the Harry Potter readings from 11:40 a.m.- 12:05 p.m. in the learning commons.  Our 3rd and 4th grade students should bring a sack lunch on reading days.  Our 5th grade students will miss their lunch recess.

Hearts of Gold
Last week information came home regarding this year’s Hearts of Gold recipient, the Children’s Healing Center. This organization is the first year-round recreation facility providing social and emotional healing for children with weakened immune systems and their families in a safe, clean environment. We hope you’ll join us at this week’s PTO meeting on Thursday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m. to learn more about the organization.

Our students have the opportunity to Make a Difference for those served at the CHC by raising funds via collecting cans, hot cocoa stands, doing household chores, etc. We look forward to presenting the organization with funds raised by the district at next week’s Hearts of Gold football game. Shirts will be on sale after school on various days throughout this week and next. Please check the Breton Downs calendar here for exact dates and times. We look forward to seeing our students wearing the color gold on Friday, October 21 and celebrating the week at our Family Picnic on October 21.

There will be two spirit days during Hearts of Gold week:
  • Tuesday, October 18- Wear a hat to school for a $1.00 donation
  • Thursday, October 20- Wear pajamas to school for a $1.00 donation

October 31: Halloween Celebration at School
On Monday, October 31, please send your child to school dressed in regular school clothes, as most of our celebrations will be held in the afternoon. Here are some reminders as you start thinking about costumes.
  • Students should plan on slipping on costumes over their clothes.  Students need to do this independently.

  • Please remember no full face masks, face paint, make-up, blood, or weapons.

  • Weather permitting, the parade will be outside starting at 2:30 p.m.  Please see the map here.  Parents/guardians may line-up anywhere along the route, but please leave sidewalks clear for our students. I will notify families if we need to hold our parade indoors. Families will be welcome to join us in the gymnasium.

Please note there is no school on Friday, October 28.

At the end of HHM (October 15) students who participate can turn their boards in to be entered for a drawing. Winners will be randomly selected to enjoy a paleta party during recess.
Have fun learning about the beautiful culture.
