Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,
Please join me in officially welcoming Mrs. Kim Carnevale as the newest member of our Wealthy Elementary Office team! Mrs. Carnevale will be in the office daily from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM to assist Mrs. Allchin with attendance and other needs. I am thrilled to add such a caring and dedicated individual to the Wealthy Elementary staff.
March: A Celebration of Reading
This week is our Scholastic Book Fair! Thank you to Sarah Starck and Allison Vriesenga for organizing this event. We held a successful Kick-Off event yesterday afternoon, and the Student Leadership Team did a wonderful job leading games including Dinosaur Bingo which fits our theme of Books are Dinomite! The Book Fair will be open throughout the week. Please check the Wealthy Elementary Calendar found here for specific hours. Thank you to everyone who has been bringing in books to donate, as well. We will be taking those to an area school in need at the end of the week.
As elementary educators, we believe in the importance of reading and writing every day. Hosting and learning from authors, such as Denise Brennan Nelson, who met with our K-3 students last week, is an opportunity for our teachers to strengthen student engagement and skills in reading and writing. To continue our month-long celebration of reading, our 4th and 5th grade students will hear from author Gary Schmidt on Wednesday. He is the author of various award-winning novels including The Wednesday Wars and Okay For Now. To learn more about his books, please click here. Thank you to the PTO for supporting this learning opportunity!
I am hopeful that winter is coming to an end, but with all the changes in weather, I wanted to remind parents of best practices regarding illness. A child must be fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school. Throughout the day, staff encourage students to wash their hands. These measures help to prevent the spread of illness in our schools. Thank you for your support.
