Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

It is hard to believe that the last week of the 2018-19 school year is here. Thank you all for your partnership in supporting our students throughout their learning journey. The Wealthy Elementary School community is truly special because of the support from our volunteers, the PTO, and the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation. I am deeply appreciative of the time and resources given. It makes our school a remarkable place to be each and every day.

Thank you, also, to our parent volunteers for making the 5th Grade Farewell activities so memorable this past Friday! They will conclude this Thursday with our Walk of Fame. We will begin calling names at 11:00 AM. Parents of fifth graders are invited to attend. Kindergarten through Fourth grade students will be lining the sidewalks outside from the 3-5 playground doors to the front, K-2 doors. Guests are welcome to line up behind the students.

Below are some reminders for our final few days:

  • Last Day Dismissal Procedures:  The last day of school, Thursday, June 6, is a half-day. Students in grades 2-5 will be released from outside after the flag lowering ceremony at approximately 11:24 AM.  Students in grades K-1 will return to their classrooms after the flag is lowered and will be released from their normal doors. This ensures a safe, stress-free end to the school year for our youngest students. In the event of inclement weather, the Walk of Fame will occur in Pioneer Auditorium. We appreciate your support in providing appropriate instructions for how and where to proceed at dismissal for your children

  • Medication: Please pick up any medication your child has kept in the office by Wednesday, June 12. Any medication left after this date will be discarded.

  • Library Books & Lost and Found:  Teachers have communicated information about overdue library books to students. Please help search and return these valuable materials.  Items in the Lost and Found will be donated after Wednesday, June 12.

  • Yearbooks will be going home this week. For the first time this year, Geskus did all yearbook ordering through their online system. If you did not indicate the desire to purchase a yearbook this fall through their system, you may still order one here.

  • 2018-19 Report Cards will be available via Skyward on Friday, June 14, 2019.

Retirements
This time of year is one for celebration, but can also be bittersweet as we say “goodbye” to some of our staff members transitioning from one adventure to another. At the end of this year, Mrs. Annie Schmieder will retire from the field of education. She has been teaching music for 37 years; 15 of those in East Grand Rapids. Her passion is to share the joy of music with others and her favorite memories include watching students perform at Clark Home and during the Melodies in March. Mrs. Schmieder and her musical talents will be greatly missed, but we wish her the best of luck in retirement!

Staff Shout-Outs
Thank you to everyone who has submitted a “Shout Out”! They are incredibly heartwarming to read! If you haven’t already, please consider sharing your brief story or “thanks” for a staff member using the link found
here. I will be sharing these with them on the last day of school as a celebration of their time with students this year.

Warm Regards,

Incredible! We’re almost there!

Over the last two years, Now&Forever has raised more than $6 million to create a sustainable source of funding for our schools. That includes more than $200,000 in pledges last week alone!

If you're one of the more than 800 families, including more than 130 EGRPS staff members, who have contributed to the campaign, I thank you. More important, our students and our schools thank you as well...Read More

We have good news to share as we approach the June 6 deadline for our fall 2019 Lego Robotics season. Upon reviewing the current signup information, we should have enough students to form a team or teams at each of our elementary buildings. We’ll be reaching out to parents this coming week to identify coaches, mentors, and other volunteers to support these teams. If you have not signed up your student using our First Lego League interest survey, please do so by the end of the day June 6. Please view our FAQ by clicking here...
