Although OHP claims that they cover a 48 hour postpartum stay at Bella Vie the amount that they reimburse is significantly less than the actual cost of care.
We would love to be able to provide care to all of our new mamas here at Bella Vie for up to the 48 hours, however the discrepancy between the costs of care and the low reimbursements from the Oregon Health Plan have become too much for us to handle, especially since they keep lowering the amount of payout, and in some cases are taking many, many months to pay.
Therefore, starting immediately, new moms with any OHP Plan (Willamette Valley Community Health, Care Oregon, Yamhill County Care Organization and the Open Card) will only be covered for a 6 hour postpartum stay, and regretfully we will not be accepting new OHP clients until a new coverage agreement is made between Bella Vie and OHP. At this point, former OHP clients will still be considered, assuming they remain appropriate candidates for birth at Bella Vie.
We are all family here at Bella Vie and need to stick up for one another. One way to do this is to write to our representatives and tell them that the women of Oregon want options in childbirth, and that the Oregon Health Plan is currently limiting those options available to them, due to their lack of payment.
Go to https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/FindYourLegislator/leg-districts.html to find an address, phone number or email address of your district legislature and let your voice be heard. They don’t know what you want, if you don’t tell them, and we have heard that they don't think anyone is requesting our services.
You can also call OHP Customer Service at 800-699-9075 and let them know that they are not providing enough of the “customer services” that you want.
If you want to make a statement, but can’t find time in your busy (mom) schedules to write something out yourself, please see below or visit the Bella Vie Facebook page for a stock letter we’ve made available.
