Fearrington Farmers' Market
Tuesdays, 4 - 6 pm
April through November

Fall weather means plenty of outdoor events!

As soon as the weather starts to cool off in the fall, local events calendars start to fill up with all sorts of interesting things.  Here are a few farm-related events coming up in the next few weeks -- check them out!

10th Annual Abundance NC PepperFest

This festival originally began as a taste-testing event to help a local plant breeder with his pepper project, and has turned into a full-on celebration of local food, farms and farmers, chefs, restaurants, and breweries, and -- of course -- peppers!

If spicy food isn't your thing, don't worry.  There will also be plenty of sweet peppers, mild peppers, and pepper-themed fun for everyone!

The 10th annual PepperFest will be held on Sunday, September 24, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, at Briar Chapel's Great Meadow (just up the road from Fearrington Village).  Click here for more information and find out how to purchase tickets.

Chatham County Farm & Industry Tour

The Chatham County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension is hosting its annual Chatham County Farm & Industry Tour on Tuesday October 3, 2017 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (times may vary based on pick-up location). For over 20 years the Chatham County Center has led this popular tour to increase public awareness of Chatham County agriculture, forestry, and industry.

The Farm & Industry Tour is sponsored by the Chatham County Farm Bureau. Four educational stops, including equine husbandry, wine production, sustainable wood products, and industrial composting, are planned for this event.

Tickets cost $15 per person and include transportation, snacks, and a catered lunch. Tickets must be purchased in advance to reserve your spot. Fearrington Village is one of four departure sites for the tour; at the time of registration, participants will be able to designate their preferred pick-up location. Click here for more information.

The Chatham Extension Master Gardeners will have tickets for sale at market this week, so be sure to stop by and see them if you're interested!

Perry-winkle Farm

We are back from our glorious 2-week vacation- it was cold and rainy for a good part of our trip north and that was just fine with us. We had told folks that we were heading for cooler weather, but we had no idea that long-johns would be required!  Thankfully, we were prepared for the cold temperatures we experienced while in the Adirondack mountains.

There is a new bed of arugula ready and we will have a cooler full at market this week. Also the fall greens are gorgeous and ready to harvest- we will have bunches of kale and collard greens this week.

The pepper field is looking awesome- we will have lots of lovely red and yellow bell peppers, 3 varieties of sweet Anaheim-style peppers perfect for salads or grilling, and we will have some spicy varieties as well.  The eggplants are also proving to be very abundant- look for baskets of oriental and globe varieties.

We will have a cooler full of frozen Freedom Ranger chicken; we will have whole birds and all of your favorite cuts.  These birds are raised on pasture so they get plenty of exercise which means they develop great flavor.  They get moved every day to ensure they have fresh forage and a clean environment.  We will also have some eggs -- Jumbo, Large, Mediums and Pullet-sized.

We will also have a rack full of colorful mixed bouquets.  Plan on taking home some "local color" this week.

looking forward to seeing everyone,
