A Message from Executive Director Laurie Baefsky

a2ru kicks off 2016 by welcoming three new partners: Boston University, Kent State University and Princeton University. On behalf of a2ru I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all!
At the home office we're getting ready for the a2ru 2016 Emerging Creatives Student Summit convening March 9-11 at the University of Michigan. The theme is RISE: Forging Resilient Communities and will focus on creative revitalization efforts in Ann Arbor and Detroit. The hashtag for the event is #a2ruRise. We’ll be live tweeting @a2ru_News.
Our next a2ru Circuits webinar, Creating Faculty-Driven Catalysts for Sustainable Collaborations is this Friday, February 26, 2016 from 1:00 - 2:00pm EST. There’s still time to register and submit questions. Share all queries with associate director Deb Mexicotte, and the mixed panel from University of Utah (an a2ru partner institution) will address them.
This past month I’ve represented a2ru at several events, including serving on a working group for the national SEAD network; sitting on a SEAD panel at the CAA national conference in Washington, D.C., Cultivating an Ecology of Networked Knowledge and Innovation through Collaborations among Sciences, Engineering, Arts, and Design, discussing collaborations and partnerships; and being part of a SphinxCon panel in Detroit on the Art of Disruption and Entrepreneurship, moderated by ArtPlace America executive director, Jamie Bennett.

I am seeing a growing mandate in higher education to graduate collaborative responsive leaders who can creatively address and solve the seemingly intractable problems facing this generation. Engaged integrative learning with a deep disciplinary grounding inclusive of the arts is the path forward.
Warm regards,
