Dear Rustenburg Families

Thank you to many of you for the generous pledges for the COVID Relief Fund established by the School Governing Body.  So far R87500 has been raised and this is enough to cover fees for four learners for six months, and I’m sure the supported families will be very grateful.  If you would still like to take this opportunity to support fellow Rustenburg parents please click on the following link.  The donations are tax deductible so please do encourage friends and family to consider donating as well, or maybe your business would like to make a contribution.

We are working hard to ensure learners can return to school fully in 2021:

  • We are going back to a normal 10 day timetable from the beginning of next year, with everyone attending school every day.
  • Lessons will no longer be streamed, as we hope to have all learners back in the classroom.

If it is not possible to have everyone back at any stage, then we will revert to the following:

  • Attendance for Grades 8 and 9 on the same days, alternating with Grades 10 and 11.
  • Matrics will still come to school every day.
  • All grades will follow the normal timetable, whether at school (contact lessons) or at home (online lessons).

This is all dependent on the regulations issued by the DBE and WCED.

We look forward to a pleasant last few days of the year and trust that the test series helped each learner evaluate their learning this year.

Michael Gates

Following concerns raised by current and past learners earlier this year, the school appointed L&N Consultants to work with us on matters of improving racial literacy, addressing issues of systemic racism and moving toward a more diverse and inclusive school. During 2020, she has led multiple workshops for Rustenburg staff and smaller coaching circles for members of the leadership team. As part of this process, she and her team will be facilitating workshops with the learners at the start of 2021 and will be offering an opportunity for parents to hear some of what is being unpacked in these sessions.
Dates to diarise:
  • Wednesday 27 January – Grade 12 workshop (during school hours)
  • Thursday 28 January – Grade 8 & 9 workshops (during school hours)
  • Friday 29 January – Grade 10 & 11 workshops (during school hours)
  • Tuesday 2 February 2021 – Parents’ evening workshop - Please RSVP for this meeting here.

Computer Applications Olympiad

A total of 6460 learners participated in the Computer Applications Olympiad in 2020.  Maryam Badsha (Grade 12) came second in the Western Cape and made the top 11 in South Africa in the finals. Well done to Maryam on this remarkable achievement!
Learners from A4 managed to put together 7 gift boxes to contribute to the Gift Box Drive for Vuvu's Kitchen for Children, a soup kitchen in Nyanga, who prepare, cook and serve food for underpriviledged children. Thank you to all Rustenburg families who contributed to this drive.

LO Matters

Message from Stellenbosch University regarding applications for 2022:

The application period for undergraduate applications has been adjusted from 1 March - 30 June to 6 April - 31 July. Applications for 2022 will therefore open on Tuesday, 6 April 2021 and close on Saturday, 31 July 2021.

  • Grade 12 applicants will be required to apply using their grade 11 end-of-year examination results.
  • If their grade 11 examination was compromised due to the impact of COVID-19, applicants will have the option to submit their grade 12 mid-year examination results. Confirmation from affected schools that learning and teaching could not take place and a grade 11 assessment was not conducted, will be required.
  •  It should also be noted that grade 11 results are used to make provisional offers, and that final offers will still be based on the grade 12 final exam results.
