Dear RGHS Families

We are well and truly back into the swing of things with all grades attending school, albeit part time for the Grade 8-11 learners.  I am, however, surprised at the fluctuation in attendance of our matric learners.  In just over two weeks the matrics will begin writing their preliminary examinations.

Please save the date of 16 September (17:30-19:00) for a parent online engagement for which an invitation will be sent out by email.

I need to thank the staff (in particular the teachers) who have stepped up to ensure online and in class learning is of an excellent standard, despite the challenges that COVID-19 has thrown us.  Thank you also to those working behind the scenes to ensure that the technology and work programme are working well.

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Sanda Sogoni as a full time counsellor from January 2021.

As an experienced school counsellor, we are sure she will prove to be an invaluable addition to our RGHS team.

This week marks the anniversary of the death of Jesse Hess, a 19-year-old UWC student. We should continue to remember and support those who have been victims of GBV.  Gender-based violence continues to be a scourge in our society and has become an even more pressing problem during lockdown.  If you or anyone you know is affected by GBV please contact the Gender-based Violence Command Centre 0800428428.

At the end of this term we will be sorting through our applications for Grades 9 to 11 and finalising our acceptances for next year.
In order to assess whether we have any places to offer to these applicants, we kindly request that you inform us, in writing by Friday 25 September 2020, if your daughter will not be returning to Rustenburg next year.  Please send your notice to:

Please remember that you need to give the required term’s notice or you will be liable for a full term’s fees.

All COVID-19 related information can be found in the Google Drive folder here.

There has been some changes/additions to the Grade 8 and 9 test timetables. Updated test timetables are uploaded here.

The Bugs' Boutique will be open on Saturday 5 September from 10:00 to 12:00.

The shop will return to normal operation hours from October in preparation for the return to uniform from Term 4.
The fire drill was moved to the end of the school day on Monday 14 September – the learners will evacuate to the Hockey Fields and will be dismissed from there.

There will therefore be no assembly at the end of the day. While we hope that the drill will be complete by 14:30, we may need to keep them for a few moments longer to complete the drill register.

It's that time of the year again to say “thank you” to our amazing grounds and cleaning staff. The money raised will go towards an end-of-year gift to show our appreciation.

On 10 and 11 September, the girls can wear FUNKY HATS / HEADGEAR. Please pay at least R10 on either SnapScan (right) or on Karri. No cash is allowed at school.

From the Blood Donor Committee

The Western Cape Blood Service is running low on blood stock at the moment, especially Type O and B blood groups. Since we cannot host blood donor clinics at school at present, please consider visiting one of the clinics here. Remember that you need to be 16 and older to donate blood. See Who can donate? here.
